Recommended to stay in the Back Bay Area on a 2 day leg of a USA trip recently and Copley House seemed to be ideal, with solid reviews. However, it’s a distant last of the 4 hotels we chose across 4 cities, and represented very poor value for money.
The first point is that Copley House is a collection of houses in the near and not so near vicinity of the hotel reception. This was not obvious at all from the description. Ours was on a different street a good 5-6 minute walk away. We ended up lugging our luggage all the way there, then had to do the same to check out. No human representation at the satellite address.
Then there’s no lifts, so you need to think about that when taking luggage up and down stairs. Choose your floor carefully. Our minuscule room was for 3 but had a double and sofa bed, and we needed to carefully position luggage not to trip up. View was onto a fire escape to rear of property.
The bathroom was terrible, with a poor shower and the most basic of toiletries (back to 1970s B&Bs), and in insufficient quantity. Not a place to linger.
I can not fault the location, but the price for the room size, quality and ambience simply not appropriate. And for me with a remote reception and no services to speak of it felt more like a youth hostel than a hotel.
A big disappointment.
