I stayed here just for one night. Room was clean although one would expect much more for the price (~200USD). Bathroom was quite small, and there was no much space for toothbrush, shaver etc... On the last day, I asked for cab and hotel staff introduced me a taxi driver (no meter in the car) who took 40$ for the ride to world trade centre.

Whatever you do. DON'T stay at this place. Not budget price for MUCH worse than budget accommodation. Where do you start. We had already had 3 great nights in a hotel on the outskirts of Boston at the start of a 2000 mile sightseeing holiday and finished with our last night in a hotel with a great description near to the airport. DON'T believe a word of it. We had a job finding it before we realised it was a YMCA hostel. Extremely rude and disinterested reception staff; foul smelling litter strewn corridors, a room that was dirty, and dangerously unsafe (broken plug sockets with exposed wires, wires trailing from wall lamps attached to a broken plug. A fridge that didn't work, I could go on and on. The hotel was supposed to be near a vibrant area with restaurants and bars. We toured around for an hour before we could find somewhere to eat (and that wasn't great) The ones listed in the room information brochure just didn't exist (and we had a GPS system). Lastly the noise level was awful with lots of kids shouting and screaming running up ad down the corridors with their parents screaming back. We GENUINELY felt that we were living in a hostel for people who had fallen on hard times. We are just ordinary people who like to travel and have stayed everywhere from appartments to B and B's and Hotels but this is the WORST place we have EVER stayed in. NOT to be repeated.

Room Tip: None for this hotel

Located within a five-minute walk of the USS Constitution, this hotel has a bit of an institutional feel:
* Lobby is more for the YMCA downstairs than a hotel
* A lot of hard surfaces (cinderblock walls), basic carpets, basic bathroom finishings
* One slow elevator to reach the 3-6 floors and housekeeping/maintenance people are always using it
* Wi-fi is trusting: just allows you to connect; it doesn't force you to click "I accept" not to sue the hotel in the event that the Internet doesn't work right.

Pluses:
* Price - Unless you want a hotel in the far off suburbs you are going to pay $300-500 generally
* Our room had a fridge and microwave so we could self-cater as needed
* Neighborhood feels safe, if lonely

Minuses:
* Location in Charlestown Navy Yard is kind of a drag for sightseeing unless you want to see the hotel's namesake boat. We were there at the end of summer so the 20-30min walk to the North End wasn't bad but winter could be tough. Good news: there is a couple of Hubway stands (for one-way bike rentals) and and Uber-assisted ride wasn't too expensive (you would have to take a lot of taxis to make up for the price differential between this and other hotels).
* There is one fancy restaurant called "Bistro" but you have to go pretty far to find a place to eat out. Urban life is not immediately nearby.
* Its apparent legacy as a place for Navy vets to stay means that there is a contingent of guys (and gals) smoking on the patio.
* The aforementioned slow elevator can take a couple of minutes to come

I should have know that the best price for a hotel in central Boston would be a YMCA. Yes it's basic: breeze block walls, no A/C etc. Although the whiff of 'mary jane' on my corridor suggested that someone was having a fun evening. Weird location - feels like the middle of nowhere but a short walk under the freeway and you're in swanky Charlestown.

Dear Guest,

We appreciate your honest response to your stay with us. It sounds like your air conditioning wsa not working in your room? We do have air conditioning in each of our rooms and we apologize if your stay was uncomfortable. Our facilities team has been notified to take a thorough look at our air condtioning system to ensure we are providing a comfortable environment for our guests. The Navy Yard certainly has a unique and historic feel, characteristics we admire at The Constitution Inn. Thank you for staying with us.

This was not my first time here. I stayed here years ago, back in 2001. I remember it well. The Constitution Inn was a hotel that catered to the military. I'm not sure it was only military, but it was a great place to stay when visiting Boston. They would determine your rate based on your rank, so the lower enlisted could still have an affordable time there. The rooms were simple, but adequate.
A few weeks ago I went back. This time to Boston because of a family member at the hospital. And not much has changed...literally. I'm pretty sure they have the same bedding that they did 12 years ago. I know the mattress don't feel like they've been changed. The room had a coffee pot...with a cord that didn't reach the outlet. There was constant noise in the halls. Our neighbor was a heavy smoker (in a non smoking building) and someone down the hall was cooking what we were later told (who knows if it's true) some sort of animal head in their room.

But here is the best part, of all the Constitution Inn's features (On site laundry, free Wi-Fi, VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL STAFF TO WHICH I CAN'T THANK ENOUGH) by far the most interesting (I've never seen any hotel that offers this before) is their very own HALFWAY HOUSE!!!

I will not stay here again. Nor will I recommend it to anyone I know. Stay away!

Room Tip: Go somewhere else!!!

My husband loved it, everything was perfect for his height, I'm only 5'7 1/2" and I found the place dreadful. We guessed it's because it was created so long ago to accommodate the height of people back then.

If you are tall, I hope you can squat because the toilet was so low, it was crazy. Even the workers there, when they saw it said, "Wow that's low." We liked the idea of having a fridge, but bring your own utensils and cooking agents. In the picture, you see wonderful views, but our view was of an abandoned building and the highway...Fun.

At least the staff was cordial, but they weren't enthusiastic either. Their attitude matched ours...Ho hum...

By the time I got home, I sat in a regular height chair and smiled...

Who knew something like that could make you grateful.

Basically, if you want the school dorm feel and you are a short person who's tired of sitting on things and watching your legs swing...This place is for you.

By the way, you will hate the parking. Period.
