Booked a 2-double bed room for 3 adults in June 2014. The thing is, it was described as "attached" to the YMCA but gave the impression that it was a separate entity, which it is not. I found that for a "Y" it is rather expensive. I would have gone for the Residence Inn by Marriot close by, which had rooms for the same price, if I had known it was a actually a "Y". There was construction going on next door so we were awoken before 7am every morning, which was rather annoying but not any fault of the hotel. The ladies at reception were all very friendly and helpful. The cinder-block construction visible on the room walls was gave the room the feel of a dorm room, which was rather at odds with the price and general feel of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the rear of the hotel as the front is facing the construction site.

The Inn offered a rate which we were very happy with. Pleasantly surprised how large our room was on the 6th floor. The place was clean, not fancy or luxurious. Nice king sized bed. Bathroom was just a shower stall, no tub. Overall small bathroom, in need of update but clean nonetheless.
Another bonus was the laundry facility located in the basement. We took full advantage of that since we are traveling the north east for a month on one small suitcase of clothes! We knew there was a fitness center available but there was never any mention that it is a full YMCA! It is actually connected to the Inn and if you stay you have full use of the Y. We loved the location in the old Navy Yard. Took the ferry one day into city. Other days we walked across the bridge which was a nice and easy walk. It was actually quite quiet in this area of town. Convenient to the USS Constitution and Constitution Museum. Staff was very friendly. Told us how to catch a little free shuttle near the corner of the Inn. My husband and daughter took in a concert at the TD Garden and used the shuttle which took only 10 minutes over the bridge! This Inn was a reasonable price and fully met our needs.

It is true it is a "Y". But the price was great, and the rooms were quiet & generous in size. The rooms are "okay" in quality. For a big city like Boston, I'll take that combination. We didn't have a car, so I can't speak as to parking.

To give an approximate idea of how far the Inn is from the center of town, one evening it took us about an hour to walk from historic Faneuil Hall back to the Inn. The shipyard is a secluded area. No major streets, and many streets are foot traffic only. There is a nearby park with a playground, a convenience mart, a small breakfast place, and a more formal evening restaurant. It is a great place for families with small children, for runners, and for people like us who like it quiet at night and leave in the morning to come back in the evening. It didn't bother us that the "Y" had a large workout room on the first floor. Guests could use it if they wanted.

Many of the buildings in the shipyard are occupied by the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). There is a free shuttle that goes between the MGH shipyard campus, the Barkley's Center subway station, and the main MGH campus. No questions asked, guest are welcome to use the shuttle. It runs something like every half hour from 7 AM to 7 PM. The shuttle was mostly people going to and from the MGH campuses, but there were other people on it too. I don't know if the shuttle runs on weekends. You will want to call a cab if you go out in the evening.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 5th floor. Okay, but not great, water pressure. The coming and going from the 5th f...

We stayed here the middle of May, 2014. The staff was incredible - friendly, personable, and well informed on services and activities available. The room was a bit dated - could have used paint - but overall, I feel this hotel was a good deal for the price.

We booked online as most do. Nowhere did it say it was a YMCA. There is nothing wrong with a YMCA but it might have influenced our choice. The room was large, although dated, and had a full kitchen. Very close to the USS Constitution and USS Constitution Museum which were on our list of things to do in Boston. A little bit pricey at $209 per night but it saved us several taxi fares.

This hotel is average, not great, but not a dump. We stayed for 2 nights in May and we were satisfied with the room and service for the price we paid. It was quiet and clean enough. Definitely not in the heart of Boston and parking wasn't convenient. I might stay there again, but I'd look for better options within walking distance of more attractions.

I stayed here a few years ago with a few friends for a pre-deployment trip back in November 2009. Their prices per room were good and we got there shortly after they renovated some rooms. The only negatives I have concerning the Inn are that the parking is the worst, and it's fairly far from down town. Overall we had a nice stay here.
