“As reviewed and advertised :-)”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

When traveling, we frequently will read reviews and try new dining establishments. D'Amelios Off the Boat Italian & Seafood Restaurant was exactly as reviewed and advertised. We had a quick overnight trip to Boston, were staying at the airport and were not renting a car. Just like having crab cakes in Baltimore, oysters in New Orleans or crepes and escargot in Paris, eating some lobster in Boston was the plan. D'Amelios seemed to be a good choice...within walking distance for us but others might choose a cab for the 5 or so blocks, casual since we only packed warmups and jeans, seafood (albeit with an Italian flair). We made reservations several days in advance and before departing on our trip and were glad we did so. This was a very small, cozy restaurant...packed and very busy all evening. As we enjoyed some nice glasses of wine and looked over the menu, we inquired of customers around us as to their orders. It was lucky we saw the huge order portions because we certainly could not have taken seafood on the plane the following day! Although D'Amelios has a policy of not splitting orders, we decided to share a Mixed Field Greens Salad which was available for two. And as it turned out, we had to box half of it for the next day anyway. We were going to order Veal Marsala and Lobster Guiseppi...and do sampling. However, after seeing the huge Veal Marsala entree served at the next table, I opted instead for the Seafood Meatballs appetizer as my entree. Although they were a bit more fishy than I normally enjoy, they were 'seafood' meatballs after all and even included some lobster. Naturally, I also tried an entire lobster tail and linguine from the Lobster Guiseppi. The entire dining experience was fabulous. Next time, I'll have both a lobster appetizer AND veal entree :-) By the way, the service was very good and the staff (which included the owners) was warm, helpful and attentive. It was nice to meet locals from all over Boston who were also there!

“Not worth the trouble”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

We were staying near harbor but had seen the great reviews and decided to try it. From the harbor area near the aquarium we decided to take a cab, the first driver looked at the address and said he had no idea where this was, got in a second cab and with help from google maps on my phone we found it near the airport, $15 cab ride. Ate a decent dinner then asked for a cab home. Wait person called a friend, I guess, what appeared to be a gypsy cab (no meter) and he took us on a $20 , 5 minute cab ride back. Definitely not worth the trouble. Too many good restaurants closer. I would not return, stick to the northend.
