This B&B was awesome!! Centrally located to see the area and close to the T station. My wife and I stayed there mid-May and we had an excellent time. It was refreshing to have a stocked kitchen close to your room for beverages and breakfast. Will definetly be back.

This suited us well as it was a walk to everything including the Metro. James is a charming host and spent an hour telling us about Boston and what to see.
The breakfast arrangements are as described and more continental in style. The bed was excellent as was the ensuite.
Our room was at the top of two flights of stairs which might be a challenge for older infirm folks.
I can recommend Newbury street and the museum of Fine Arts.

I have been meaning to write this review ever since our trip in March 2013, and have now been prompted by a recent less than favourable review that I have just read. My husband and I stayed for a special occasion at the Gilded Lily and from the booking process to our departure things could not have been better. The ease of arrival and James' supreme courtesy was exceptional. Having given us time to settle in, he then asked if we would like a quick guide to Boston. We did - and he gave us a rundown of the best places to see/eat/drink. The local eateries were superb and within 5 minutes walking. Having spent most days seeing Boston by our own two feet, this was a delight. We got ourselves a couple of bottles of wine from the local wine shop and even had a take away Pizza from the corner on one night.

The Gilded Lily has already become one of our favourite places to stay. The upper floor Parlour room was spacious, quiet and with great views. it had everything and we loved the giant size toiletries in the walk-in shower too. Breakfast was just how we like it. Available and stocked in the shared kitchen adjacent to the room - we had a choice of croissants, muffins, bagels, fruit, yoghurts, fruit juice, tea and coffee as and when you wanted it. It was fantastically clean - Estella the housekeeper runs a tight ship and keeps the place immaculate. She is a real asset and James is lucky to have her (he himself acknowledged this).

We cannot recommend highly enough - and we want to go back soon. Not only because we loved Boston, but because we adored the Gilded Lily. THANK YOU JAMES:)

Room Tip: Didn't see the garden rooms - but the Parlour room was fab. Beware of stairs - we were up two fl...

We stayed five nights over the Boston marathon at the Lily. This was our third time in Boston and we had read rave reviews about the Gilded Lily.
Arriving, we were a bit early so, having been given a four digit code to enter the townhouse, we dropped our bags and returned later. As our code permitted us to come and go freely, we did not meet the owner until later. It was a very short walk from the T station to the B&B.
The room itself was absolutely beautiful. We had always wondered what it must be like to live in one of Boston's brownstones. The street was incredibly quiet, which was an unexpected treat.
We shared a kitchen with another suite (we met up once) and the fridge stocked with bagels, croissants, juice, yogurt, coffee and tea and cereal was a great amenity and helped keep, our eating out costs down.
Additionally it was a great area: close to the commons and offering up some great restaurants and little grocers.
There were a few issues with our stay: cleanliness and noise, mostly. We found several, long, dark strands of hair in our room upon arriving. We met the housekeeper and she had short hair, so we gathered it wasn't hers. Additionally, we spilled some juice in the kitchen and, when we wiped up the spill the towel was quite filthy.
Housekeeping is scheduled between 11am and 2 or 3pm daily, so we were out of our room by then, which was a bit strange because on marathon Monday (sadly, after the bombings) we were recuperating in our room after 3pm and there was a knock at the door. A bit sore, we didn't get to it fast enough and the owner let himself in, wanting to check the windows. I was rather taken aback as he had only knocked once, and it wasn't within the housecleaning period, nor had he advised us that he might be coming in to inspect something. We could easily have been napping or in the shower.
Unfortunately, what drove me over the edge was the noise of the person above us. It was thunderous. When she walked across the room (the owner indicated she was a fellow marathoner) she shook the chandelier so hard it jangled. She got up early every morning she was there, and there was no sleeping through it. Absolutely she was an inconsiderate guest, and most probably there was insufficient insulation between our suites, neither of which the owner can really control, but it actually wrecked the stay for me.
Overall, the suite was gorgeous and romantic, that breakfast was provided was wonderful, the price during what is a very expensive weekend was great, the location stellar, but the noise ingress was too much for me to overcome.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor.

Delightful B&B with real "neighborhood" feel. Great "mom and pop" restaurants and bakery within easy walk. Charming neighborhood with walking/bike trail at the end of the street. Room was QUIET with relaxed feel. Owner is as accessible as one needs, and interactions with other guests are as minimal as one desires - with a kitchenette to collect or prepare breakfast but in -room dining in an alcove next to two large windows.

Great way to experience Boston and feel like a local!

Clean, staircase was so hard with luggage and the 'Boys' certainly did not offer. It states that their is a Garden but it can only be accessed from there private home. Very clean but not veru friendly. I would give it 2 out of 10 but I'm sure others would view it differently. Btw. The smell of dog was a BoneUS,

Really great place to stay while you take advantage of the delights of a wonderful city. Great location. Made me want to live in Boston. The owner of this B&B couldn't have been more helpful in helping us navigate our five days in Boston. The room was just lovely and very comfortably accommodated my husband, my 15 year old daughter, and me. The housekeeper was like an angel that popped in, refreshed the kitchen facilities, bedroom and bathroom.
