“A Perfect Place to Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014

This was our first visit to Boston and The Gilded Lily was just the perfect place to stay. Located in a beautifully restored Boston House, it was like living the Boston life from our own flat. James, the owner, has immaculate taste in design and furnishings with every detail attended to. He was also on hand to give us some fantastic information about Boston from a Bostonian's point of view as well as a tourist's.
We loved every aspect of our stay in Boston, wishing only that it was longer. Thank you.

We’ve just returned from a visit to Boston and a stay at The Gilded Lily in the city’s South End. We can’t wait to plan another trip so that we can stay there again.

James Cullion, the Inn’s charming owner, is also an architect. He converted the top 2 floors of his 1870s-era brownstone from apartments into 4 spacious, elegant guest rooms. Each of the 2 rooms on each floor shares an ingenious “Jack and Jill” kitchen and each has a modern, fully-appointed bathroom. Though a nice continental breakfast is provided daily, the South End is full of great cafes, coffee houses, and restaurants, so it’s fun to explore and find your own little place, like Joanne Chang’s (she frequently appears on Ming Tsai’s cooking shows) Flour Bakery on nearby Washington Street . I worked on and off in Boston for more than 30 years, and when I was in the city, spent most of the time at the other end of Tremont and Washington Streets in the Back Bay. Of course, 30 years ago, the South End wasn’t the trendy spot it is today. The Gilded Lily is perfectly situated to not only explore the South End, which has the oldest and largest Victorian neighborhood in the country, but nearby Copley Square, and the rest of Boston, accessible via the nearby T. James had suggested that we join a tour of the South End's parks the day we arrived, and we're happy that we did - we saw the oldest wood frame house in the city, some interesting parks, and the building used as the opening in the TV show "St. Elsewhere". There is so much to do and see that you, too, will want to return again and again...

My husband and I travel a great deal so we get to sample a wide selection of accommodation.
We were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to stay at The Guilded Lily during our stay in Boston.
The decor was superb and the location was perfect.

Room Tip: If you can select a palour room, it is slightly bigger than the garden rooms.

Greatly enjoyed staying in the Gilded Lily, really appreciated the comprehensive information relating to Boston. Breakfast was delightful & plentiful & so many interesting nicknacks, wish I had more time to take in the ambiance!

What a gem! I hate to write this because I'm sharing my secret with other travelers. I want this charming property, Gilded Lily, all to myself. Quiet, cozy, comfortable, clean. Every bit of the process went perfectly from making a reservation to the end of our stay.

We were looking for a nice, affordable place to stay in Boston that was close to everything for the 2014 Boston Marathon. I saw the pictures and read the reviews of The Guilded Lily and thought if it is half as good as it looks and sounds then it will be great. It was better than the pictures! It was clean, beautiful, walking distance to everything, close to the T, comfortable, quiet and affordable. The Inn Keeper James is very friendly and helpful. The kitchen is stocked for breakfast and it is within walking distance to 2 grocery stores in case you don't plan on eating out every day. You don't need to rent a car. The 'T' (subway/train) has a stop 1 block from The Gilded Lily. Buy a 7 day T pass and you can get everywhere with ease. We will definitely be back to stay at The Gilded Lily over and over again. Thank you for such an amazing experience!

My husband and I stayed at the Gilded Lily for two nights April, 2014. The room was large and beautifully decorated and very clean. We had a shared kitchen which was stocked with everything for a great breakfast or a snack after coming home from sightseeing. This was very convenient. It was close to bars, shops and restaurants. We walked from Back Bay Train Station to the accommodation. We felt very safe and comfortable in this neighbourhood.
