Description: Tico, Michael Schlow's award-winning venture, located at 222 Berkely St (corner of St James) is casual, fun, inviting, energized and energizing. The restaurant has a personal, somewhat eclectic, "found" feel, with lots of reclaimed wood and unusual pieces. Perfect for friends that want to share cool cocktails, plates of tasty, sometimes spicy food, while listening to great music, in a fast, uncomplicated restaurant that provides knowledgeable, quick, playful service. The restaurant has an open kitchen with 6 stools right on the counter to watch all the action. It also boasts a large bar, dining room for 100, a chef's table, and a lush outdoor courtyard that features a fireplace, dining for 50, as well as some "soft" seating near the fire if guests wish to be outside for a drink or snack.

“Excellent Tapas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014

The food and atmosphere were equally satisfying. We arrived at 7:00 on a Friday night to a lively crowd and an attentive waitress. She gave us her speech and suggested a few favorite items. We took her recommendations and we were not disappointed. Everything we ordered was delicious and prepared as described by the waitress and on the menu. We also had a pitcher of blood orange margaritas-fantastic!

Overpriced tasting menu. Average food. Not worth the price for starch heavy meal-- not well balanced.

“Small Bites...lots of small bites”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2014

The funky interior and soft lighting make this a great spot for couples, but the lively atmosphere also is great for groups of family or friends (maybe not for a business meeting). The menu features mostly small bites broken into three categories (tacos, a la plancha, and small bites) with only about 4 entree options.
Three of us dined here and decided to go for round after round (after round after round) of nibbles. It was fantastic. the fried Manchago was to die for, the pork belly plancha was melt in your mouth and the seafood tacos were other worldly. We tried about 18 plates (pigs we were!) and all were good or above (not everything is a hit).
Cocktails were OK, with the blood orange margarita winning us over (pitcher 36 bucks give you 5 pours)
Service was a bit much...the server only had one or two tables and kinda hovered around us too much. I like an attentive server, but one who is standing next to me for 1/3 of the meal is a bit much.
The only down side is that it adds up, and quickly. figure $100 per head to nibble and sip like we did...then add the tip.

I have been to Tico a few times now and each time I am not disappointed. I love the smaller plates so you can share and taste a few different things. Great for vegetarians also.

“Enjoy!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2014

Just got back from Costa Rica and was looking for a restaurant that serves Costa Rican foods. Had dinner at this hotel and enjoyed every bite!! It’s an American restaurant with Latin American food. The infusion of the flavors are awesome. There’s a huge menu to choose from. Not to mention the Tequila menu.
I had an appetizer and a small plate, I could have had two small plates. The small plates are “small” but packed with flavor. So order two if you don’t want to order an entrée.

Did I mention the music and the ambiance?? Check it out your self it’s the whole package.
