The Doubletree Downtown Boston is a crisp, modern hotel with comfortable, though smaller rooms. Bathroom fixtures sported modern styling with a granite vanity; all very clean.
The Doubletree is a great, centrally-located place to stay if you intend to walk the city or use mass transit. The Tufts station for the MTA is less than a block away, and Boston Commons (the beginning of the Freedom Trail) is only a brisk 5 minute walk.
That said; be careful when booking. We used one of the national reservation services and specifically requested two rooms for 4 adults and 1 child. When we checked in, we were given two rooms on different floors each with a king bed. The hotel was sold out, and there were no rooms with two double beds available. We were also told that there were no rooms available that were large enough to accommodate a roll-away, so our teenage daughter was forced to sleep on the loveseat. When I inquired how the Doubletree normally accommodates children in a room, I was told they usually assume the child will sleep in the bed with the parents. (!)
One other caveat: the exercise facilities are next door in the adjacent YMCA through a dark, creepy corridor, and I was informed by the members of our party who used them, that the facilities were anything but plush.
Anyway, we did enjoy our stay (though my daughter may have a different opinion...)
