“A super location and a lovely hotel”
Reviewed 13 August 2012 via mobile

We really enjoyed our stay at Nine Zero in mid July. The staff were extremely helpful, the location was great, right on the Freedom Trail and the rooms were 'trendy'. We stayed at the beginning and end of our holiday. Both rooms had a limited view, a room on the higher floorsay have helped this!! I would definitely stay here again!! Loved it!

Dear issy1Coleraine,

Thank you for bookending your holiday with us. I love the term 'holiday' much more than 'vacation' - it just sounds more relaxing. And longer - which helps too. Glad we could be a help to you during your stay. If you need any help in the future staying with us, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Happy Holiday,

Mark

Nine Zero is a great hotel. Looks good, great location, terrific staff, good value for the price. The rooms are contemporary and, for lack of a better description, luxuriously sexy. Dark wood, textured fabrics, fuzzy throw on the bed and zebra print bathrobes. Amazingly soft towels for a hotel. The lobby design is funky. Best advice on room selection: if you can, get a room above the 12th floor for a view. Corner rooms all end in 05 and the best ones seem to be floors 15, 16 and 17. We had a corner room facing Boston Common. Quiet, except for lots of church bells and some very strange renditions of America the Beautiful played from the church spire. Can't say enough nice about the staff. Especially the concierge who managed to get us a table at great seafood restaurant on a Sat night. Seems it's pretty hard to do same day reservations at the best places, but he pulled it off and sent us to a place we hadn't considered but was outstanding. The only very very minor criticism: no coffee in the room and the restaurant that does offer free coffee to guests doesn't serve until 8 am. Had to get fully dressed and make sense every morn to go to the Starbucks to bring coffee back to bed! Small thing, but coffee in the lobby at 7 am would really help. Sign up for Kimpton's free loyalty program and you get free WiFi and a $10 credit on the mini bar. Seemed a good deal!

Room Tip: avoid anything near the ice machine. It's loud when used.

Dear Indiana1000,

We're blushing with your "luxuriously sexy" - which I suppose would be the antithesis of that description. Needless to say we are flattered that you took the time to write a review on your experience.

The bells actually just began tolling again in the last year after being quiet for some time. I guess even centuries old bells need a rest every once and a while. And "My Country 'Tis of Thee" was actually written on the steps of that church. Truly nothing in Boston is untouched by the mark of history.

From history to the future - next time you stay, you should know that we do offer morning coffee for our guests on the second floor in the lounge. The lighting is a little softer and the noise a little quieter up there to help everyone adjust to the day before the caffeine has kicked in.

Best,

Mark

The Nine Zero has a great location, nice view, and an interesting contemporary decor. We got a clean and spacious corner room (805). They offer a happy hour with surprisingly pretty good wine @ 5pm. The room temperature did not go lower than 72 even though the thermostat would go down to 62. My guess is that the a/c does not have the adequate capacity for the room. Bed and pillows are fine (could be better), perhaps is about time to get new ones. Not too bad but if you want a cool room to sleep this particular one would not do it. We had breakfast at their restaurant one morning and the food was simply ok. Spent $38 for breakfast for ONE person including tax and tip! We did not have a car so did not have to worry about parking. If you are thinking about renting a car in Boston, think again, it is almost impossible to find a parking spot without paying a fortune. I would definitely stay here again and skip their restaurant.

Dear Xmaspr,

Sorry to hear about the A/C not being sufficient for cooling your room. I have noticed the corner rooms tend to warm a little more than others - probably because they have so many windows absorbing the sun all day long! But we have noted your comment and engineering has inspected to the room to ensure everything is operating as it should. I was also disappointed to hear about breakfast in KO. Usually it is outstanding. Brioche French Toast!

Thank you again for staying with us and we hope to see you back with us soon.

I stayed at Nine Zero for a workshop in June at Suffolk Law School. You cannot beat the location if you want to be near Suffolk Law; it is a short two blocks walk down Tremont Street.

The hotel was very nice for the conference rate; I don't know if I would pay some of the higher room rates described in other reviews given the other hotel options in the area. It seemed like a low-key W Hotel, but probably not the "happening" and "hipster" vibe it. The lobby and reception area is very small. And although they advertise a "wine hour" I did not see many people gathered for it.

Overall, I think it is a great choice if you need to be around Suffolk but you will want to step out on the town for any type of socializing.

Dear lalagirl22,

We are so close to Suffolk and Emerson College that we would probably be wise to open up a college bookstore somewhere on property. We certainly have seen our fair share of college families stay with us from parents' to almuni weekends.

We will pretend we didn't read the comparison between us and our friends from end of the alphabet. It is true that there are areas of the city more densely packed with nightlife options - but as far as being central to everything, it doesn't beat 90 Tremont!

Safe Travels,

Mark

We stayed two nights and had rooms on the 7th and 8th floors, which were not quite high enough to not hear the morning traffic. Rooms are nicely furnished and comfortable. Reasons it is not rated five stars:

Valet parking only at $42 a night. Very difficult to get street parking as most of the surrounding streets are street cleaning every night. A couple of nearby lots have overnight parking for $13 but the car has to be moved very early.

No coffee maker in room.

Noisy unless high up.

Cheers!

Marius

Dear Marius40,

We really want those 5 stars....let's see if I can help!

Valet parking is $42 an evening - but that gets you unlimited in and out privileges, an indoor spot, the chance to interact with our super friendly door staff, and so on!

Coffee makers are available by request in all rooms - we just like to free up as much space as possible for you guys.

Traffic...to be continued.

Safe travels,

Mark

It definitely had the chain hotel feeling vs. boutique. Lobby area was the best part, very pretty sitting area, fruit flavored water out all day. But the room felt worn around the edges and out of date. (like it was chic 7 years ago kind of style) Previous time in Boston we stayed at the Liberty hotel and preferred that times a million. Will definitely be back at the Liberty next time.

Dear eurojill,

"It was okay..." is the death knell for anyone in hospitality. Anything less than mind-blowing is pretty disappointing when you get down to it. Thank you for staying with us and providing your honest feedback. A number of our rooms are undergoing a really cool upgrade as I type. I would say it is definitely worth a second look.

Regards,

Mark

We stayed at the Nine Zero for two nights in July. The hotel was nice but not top end; the rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable and decor was funky. The desk personnel were very nice and helpful, they were some of the best we have experienced in the past 2 years. The hotel had naturally flavored water available in the lobby that was wonderful and a nice extra touch. My wife loved the shower (it was a good sized with wonderful pressure and plenty of hot water. Our only complaints would be the cost and the horrible restaurant the concierge recommended for us (Antico Forno: terrible atmosphere with below average food). Nice stay in a nice location.

Dear donald01,

Thank you for staying with us last month. Very sorry to hear about your restaurant experience. Our team is usually spot on with their recommendations. I will let the concierges know your feedback. They do try to re-visit everywhere they recommend in a timely manner - unfortunately the North End alone has dozens upon dozens of options to vet. As far as cost goes - I would recommend keeping an eye out for some of the cool packages and promotions we always have going. Additionally if you are a Kimpton InTouch member, you get insider deals as well.

Take care,

Mark
