“Beautiful hotel!”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Commonwealth. The hotel has a calm atmosphere and a friendly, helpful staff at the front desk. Our room was clean, spacious, beautifully furnished and incredibly quiet - all noise seemed to be muffled by triple(?) pane windows and quality building materials used throughout the room. This allowed us to enjoy our cityscape view of Fenway without being affected by traffic noise. Very nice! On the downside, room service was rather slow, but not bad enough to affect my rating. Just leave a little time for the order to arrive. I would definitely stay at this hotel again!

Everything about our recent stay at the Commonwealth was superb. The doorman helped my husband with a map and suggestions for him to get the rental car back to the airport (we'd been out on the Cape for a wedding), the front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the luggage person was just great at getting all our stuff to our room quickly. Our original room was not quite ready (we were an hour early for check in) but they gave us another comparable room right away. Our room was very large, came with a little kitchenette (microwave, refrigerator), extremely clean, lovely bathroom, and the most comfortable bed I've experienced in a hotel in years. Even though our room faced the street it was very quiet with no road noise of any kind. We were going to two consecutive evening games at Fenway so this lovely hotel was very convenient: 2 blocks away and we walked to the ballpark and back. The Eastern Standard restaurant was also very good and the one night we had room service everything was delivered perfectly in 30 minutes. I don't have enough superlatives to describe how lovely it was to stay here for a few days. Anyone coming to Boston, especially if you're going to Fenway, will not be disappointed if you stay here. We for sure will be back.

The Service throughout our stay was exceptional! We were greeted by the doorman with a smile and by name. Evan checked us in and provided outstanding service throughout our stay. The staff was courteous and acknowledged us with a smile whenever passing through the Hotel. The accommodations are outstanding, with views of Fenway Park to the south and Commonwealth Ave to the north. The hotel is conveniently located just a few steps away from the entrance to the T, and with Fenway Park located within a 5-minute walk, this is an excellent choice to stay, if you are going to catch a game. Rooms are quiet, clean, and comfortable. The fitness center provides enough equipment to help you break a sweat. The stay provided for a wonderful experience during a birthday visit for our daughters. This was our second stay at this hotel and we look forward to returning for future visits. Again, Evan and the entire staff were exceptional, and made our trip and stay even more enjoyable, thank you!

From the moment we arrived, the Hotel Commonwealth did everything right. The lobby is beautiful and calm. The front desk staff was friendly, welcoming, and anticipated our every need. The room was lovely and the view of Fenway Park was such fun! Everything we could think of was included -- even a tablet that served as a clock and had instant access to everything from housekeeping requests (we used it to request a rollaway -- which arrived soon thereafter) to flight information (we used it to check on my brother's incoming flight). Amazing. Proximity to Fenway Park was great -- it's a 5 minute walk -- and the location at Kemore Square -- right at the T-station - makes it easy to get anywhere in Boston. It's expensive, but for this, I'd do it again.

Room Tip: Fenway Park side is fun because you get a fantastic view of the ball park.

This was the second time my wife and I stayed at the Commonwealth. Additionally, my son, his wife and my grandson occupied separate quarters. We were met at the outset with a pleasant crew of experienced greeters who took care of our car and baggage with a minimum of exertion and a maximum of efficiency. The front desk personnel were very helpful in securing our room and arranging our occupancy even though we had arrived earlier than originally planned. (My son, wife and grandson had arrived even earlier, and they, too, were admitted without difficulty or aggravation.) The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Our meals in the hotel dining room were served by waiters and waitresses who knew their business and explained questions directed to them promptly and pleasantly. (If any of your guests like raw oysters on the half shell, they will find no better such sea food served in the restaurant proper or the hotel's oyster bar anywhere else in Boston!) All in all, my family's experiences with the hotel proper, the dining room, room service, and all service personnel involved in the operation of the Commonwealth were more than satisfactory, they were excellent!

It is easy to see why this hotel is rated so highly by Tripadvisor travelers. It is an older, well maintained hotel with beautiful rooms.(we had the opportunity to look at several of them) Beginning with the staff at the front desk. They were friendly, courteous, and most helpful with suggestions for restaurants around Boston. A special thanks to Jane and Evan at the front desk. We were given room 334. If you have an opportunity to reserve this room…do it. It is a corner room with 7 large windows that wrap around the room. We were initially concerned about street noise but this turned out to be no problem at all.
The furnishings were lovely, the bedding was very high quality, as were the towels in the bathroom. We did notice there was only one very nice robe in the room and apparently other Tripadvisor guests have written about this. We didn't request another robe because my husband felt he didn't really need it, but I would think most people check into a room with two guests and most hotels we have stayed at have 2 robes in the room.
Housekeeping left the room immaculate every day. We loved this hotel and would definitely stay here again. If you are planning to attend a Red Sox game, the stadium is just behind the hotel and a very short walk. If you stay here at the Commonwealth, you will not be disappointed.

By the way, the hotel adjoins the "Island Creek Oyster Bar". We had dinner there our first night and it was delicious. Make a reservation but if you can't get one, you can give them your name at the reception at the restaurant and they will call you in your room when your table is ready.

Room Tip: Try to reserve a corner room.(334) Very large with lots of natural light but also blackout shades fo...

The location of this hotel is perfect for getting around Boston. Even though it is directly on Commonwealth Ave the room was completely quiet, something we loved. We walked to Boston Commons, walked to a Freedom Trail Tour, and also used the subway (station directly outside hotel). We attended a Red Sox game, also walking to Fenway. There was an issue in our room on our last night, and we were personally taken care of by the hotel manager Steven. All staff that we came in contact with were extremely professional and eager to attend to any of our needs. We would book again without any qualms.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking Commonwealth Avenue, excellent room, highly recommend.
