“A great night at Fenway”
Reviewed 15 September 2010

My partner and I go to one Red Sox game a year - tickets are expensive! We have stayed at the Hotel Commonwealth for the last six years. The buzz on the street pre-game is great fun. (We stay in Boston 4-10 nights a year and choose our hotel based on location) The rooms are lovely - old Boston. The beds are comfy. This year I booked the room through Jetsetter which gave us a great deal on a suite. My partner is disabled. The hotel is very accessible. The staff is wonderful. Our typical stay includes a late lunch/early dinner at Eastern Standard. I'll write a separate review for that. Anyone going to a Sox game or visiting a BU student or shopping on Newbury Street (which is totally inaccessible) should stay here.

Great boutique hotel with extremely comfortable, clean rooms and great service. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The location is very accessible to everything. Fenway park was right across the street and I had a view of the stadium from my window. Very close to action and restaurants. Very roomy hotel room. Could not complain, excellent stay and a pleasant surprise!

This hotel is really fantastic. As the other reviews have mentioned, it's perfect for a Red Sox game, you are literally a 5 minute walk from Fenway Park. And if you're a Red Sox fan, it's worth spending a little extra on the Fenway room - nothing can beat waking up, looking out the window and seeing Fenway Park!

Even if baseball isn't your thing, this hotel is great for location - a minute's walk from the Kenmore station on the Green line, making it easy to get around the city. The hotel itself is beautiful, antique style with a few contemporary twists. Loved the Fresh brand toiletries. The staff are lovely too.

The fitness center is small, but the machines are new. Was especially impressed with the cycle machine which had a video-game like interface, and allowed you to cycle on speedway courses, through apple orchards etc!

Only downside would be eating in the area - choices are limited. There's a few fast food places, a convenience store, one decent restaurant/cafe, but you don't have the variety of say the Back Bay area.

We stayed at Hotel Commonwealth for only 3 nights, and it was fantastic! We arrived late from the West Coast, and we were hungry, so we grabbed a bite at the Eastern Standard around 11:30pm. Good thing that their kitchen is open late! It was a Thursday evening, the bar was crowded and lively, and there was a great DJ spinning some tunes.

We got a great deal and booked the Commonwealth Room, which was incredibly spacious and comfortable. Contrary to our original plan, we did spend a good chunk of time in our room, since my husband came down with a cold. My favorite part of the room was the Fresh bath products!! I happily brought some extras back home. The staff was gracious and warm. I loved the location of our hotel -- it wasn't smack in the middle of all the touristy spots, but it was super close to the amazing shops and cafes on Newbury St. We ended up walking from the hotel to the Freedom Trail, but we cabbed it back when we were at the North End. Cabs are readily available, and Cambridge is right across the river. Overall, I would definitely stay here again!

This hotel is right around the corner from Fenway and within walking distance to restaurants, a convenience store and most anything else you would need. A great place to stay if you are taking in a Red Sox game.

We stayed here for 3 nights with the Red Sox Destinations group, of course to take in 3 Red Sox games. We drove in as we live outside of Boston, and was pleasantly greeted by Jeff, the valet. We carried our own bags in, no one asked to help, but no problem as they were easy to carry. Check in was easy. The elevator has a secure feature, which is good, but hard to get used to. When we got to our room on the 2nd floor, my husband noticed right way, double beds!! We reserved a king bed room. Went down to the front desk and they asked us to wait a little while, about 20 minutes and we had a room on the 5th floor!! I happen to prefer rooms higher up and the view was of Fenway Park!! The room was very spacious and very clean. The desk area was a plus with easy internet connection and chargers. We could not understand why there was no coffee maker in the room or coffee in the lobby??? Luckily there is a Dunkin Donuts nearby. Neither of us thought the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom shower was the best, large, adjustable, rainshower and plenty of pressure! We loved, loved, loved the restaurant/bar downstairs, Eastern Standard. We had drinks after the game Friday night; late night eats Saturday night and brunch Sunday AM. Staff was superb and the food was very good and reasonable for the area. Going to a Red Sox game? This is the place to stay, quick walk to Fenway!

From the moment the bellman opened the door, we were wowed by the Hotel Commonwealth. The staff are exceptionally attentive and very friendly. Each time we walked through the halls, lobby and out the front doors, no less than 3 people said "Have a nice day." Each time we came back, everyone said "Welcome back." The check in and check out process was effortless.

Our room was on the second floor and faced none other than...Fenway Park. We were there for a game, so this view was wonderful. Mind you it overlooks a roof top, but the view beyond that was wonderful. And considering that I-90 was right there...it was extremely quiet.

The room has a welcoming and comfortable decor. The lobby is beautiful and very upscale. The rooms have a charging station for phones and iPods and a mini-frig, stocked with beverages and snacks. This was a classy room. The turn-down service with the chocolate wafer was a nice bonus.

We did not have our car with us this trip, but the hotel is 15 yards from the Kenmore Square "T" stop. This made getting around Boston convenient. If you needed a cab, a bellman was right there to hail one for you.

We strongly recommend that if you are going to be in Boston this is a wonderful lodging choice. If heading to a Sox game...you can't get any better than this for a nights lodging after the game. You won't be disappointed.
