Speedy check in. Fast elevators. Room was large with bed and sitting area. Desk is a dream for business travelers. Phone has great conference call/speaker capabilities so you can multitask while on the phone. They have a universal charging station ready to go with preloaded charging tips for iPod/phone; mini and micro ports. All three can charge at once. Wireless a little slow so used the cable line and it worked like a dream. Free internet was great. Bathroom really clean with terrific "Fresh" brand products. Large bars of soap were a welcome surprise. Front desk sent up a small box of handmade chocolates; two bottles of water ; and a handwritten thank you note 10 minutes after I checked in. Surprise and a welcome one!

The Commonwealth is first class in every respect - large comfortable room, excellent friendly service, and a fine restaurant. The only drawback is that it is not an easy walk to anywhere but Fenway, so unless you're planning to go to a baseball game, be prepared to rely on your car, or a cab, or the subway system (which, conveniently, stops right at the hotel.)

The Kenmore Square area of Boston, where the Commonwealth is located, has very little of interest. Other than the hotel's own restaurant , there was only one nice eating place nearby - called Bistro Robert. If you book at this hotel with the thought of strolling to Copley Square (the heart of the Back Bay area), be prepared for about a 25 minute walk. That's okay on a nice day, but not optimal at night or if the weather is a bit off.

I'd return to the Commonwealth, but only if the rate differential between it and the top Back Bay hotels was considerable.

Stayed 2 nites, only real complaint was that each morning I woke up with a broken back...beds were too soft, husband did too......Other than that this is a really nice hotel, with great service, elegant yet comfy lobby, free wifi, free business center with 2 computers ( 1 Mac and 1 Dell), free newspapers ...Globe and NY Times...Toiletries provided were shampoo, bath gel and lotion...no conditioner....We were upgraded to a minisuite..large room with a king bed and then curtained off sitting room facing Commonwealth. 32 in flat screen TV in each area....Very quiet.. Fitness small but with very up to date machines...Lots of dining options with in a stones throw....as well as 7-11...Hotels sits on top of The T Kenmore station.... Would definitely return again if the price is right ..paid $756 including parking and all those taxes for a 2 nite stay...big weekend in Boston..parents weekend at Boston colleges

Hotel Commonwealth is excellently located right next to the metro station with loads of restaurants, pubs, a 711, and ofcourse, Fenway Park, the home stadium for the Boston Red Sox team. The rooms are fabulous...large, quiet, luxurious and very comfortable.
But the one thing that makes this place the absolute tops is the staff...we landed there around 9pm and my colleague discovered that he had left his cellphone in the cab that brought us to the airport. Samuel, the concierge got into action right away, calling up all the cab companies in Boston to check whether the cab was theirs. Fortunately, the phone was located and all was well!
Then on the day we were leaving, I discovered that British Airways would not take a golf club unless it was packed adequately to prevent any damage to the Club. Again, the concierge, this time it was Bryan, who told me to head off for my sightseeing tour and not worry about it, because he would make sure that it was packed securely. And sure enough, when I got back to the hotel, it was all done...he had got hold of some fedex containers and bubble wrap and packed it super securely!!!
Thanks guys, you prevented the trip from being a disaster and turned it into a wonderful one. Hope to be back sometime.

My partner and I go to one Red Sox game a year - tickets are expensive! We have stayed at the Hotel Commonwealth for the last six years. The buzz on the street pre-game is great fun. (We stay in Boston 4-10 nights a year and choose our hotel based on location) The rooms are lovely - old Boston. The beds are comfy. This year I booked the room through Jetsetter which gave us a great deal on a suite. My partner is disabled. The hotel is very accessible. The staff is wonderful. Our typical stay includes a late lunch/early dinner at Eastern Standard. I'll write a separate review for that. Anyone going to a Sox game or visiting a BU student or shopping on Newbury Street (which is totally inaccessible) should stay here.

Great boutique hotel with extremely comfortable, clean rooms and great service. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The location is very accessible to everything. Fenway park was right across the street and I had a view of the stadium from my window. Very close to action and restaurants. Very roomy hotel room. Could not complain, excellent stay and a pleasant surprise!

This hotel is really fantastic. As the other reviews have mentioned, it's perfect for a Red Sox game, you are literally a 5 minute walk from Fenway Park. And if you're a Red Sox fan, it's worth spending a little extra on the Fenway room - nothing can beat waking up, looking out the window and seeing Fenway Park!

Even if baseball isn't your thing, this hotel is great for location - a minute's walk from the Kenmore station on the Green line, making it easy to get around the city. The hotel itself is beautiful, antique style with a few contemporary twists. Loved the Fresh brand toiletries. The staff are lovely too.

The fitness center is small, but the machines are new. Was especially impressed with the cycle machine which had a video-game like interface, and allowed you to cycle on speedway courses, through apple orchards etc!

Only downside would be eating in the area - choices are limited. There's a few fast food places, a convenience store, one decent restaurant/cafe, but you don't have the variety of say the Back Bay area.
