We enjoyed our one night stay and would stay again. Room was lovely, service was top notch (bellman called reception so they knew us by name when we approached the front desk – nice touch). Room service is from the hotel’s Eastern Standard and the burger was just what was needed after an evening of bar hopping. Room key must be swiped to activate elevator, which I appreciate as the restaurant shares the hotels lobby rest rooms. FYI bar at E.S. is fantastic and food is very good.

Only negative - there was a reunion at the hotel and guest returning from the party could be heard (they were loud!) in the rooms until 4 am. I will not take any points away from my rating as front desk assured the group would be told to take their business elsewhere and drinks from room fridge were deducted from our bill.

Since our daughter moved to Boston, we have stayed here and will continue to. The facilities are fabulous--rooms, common areas, fitness center, restaurant; the staff are knowledgeable, and VERY friendly, always aiming to solve problems ASAP. It is as close to "home" while not actually being at home as you can get in a hotel.

We booked this hotel for an overnight stay with our 18 year old son to rest & recover from any jet-lag before staying with friends outside Boston. The hotel is a little old fashioned but very stylish. Check-in was quick & efficient. They had upgraded our room to a junior suite free of charge. The room was clean and well furnished, had a nice bathroom with a bath/shower and WC. Even though we were overlooking Commonwealth Av. the room was quiet. This and a comfy bed meant we had a good nights sleep. Breakfast was good but as usual in a hotel, a bit pricey. Staff were efficient and pleasant to us all. Check-out was quick and hassle-free. One complaint though; no tea or coffee facilities in the room! Other hotels offer this and so should the Commonwealth. Please sort out this minor irritation asap. Otherwise, a nice overnight stay.

just stayed for 11 days at the Hotel Commonwealth. It was the best stay ever. The staff was again very friendly, (many remembering my name), professional, and polished. The Hotel was clean, and beautiful, and my room was immaculate. I keep returning to Boston year after year, and I will insist that all of my friends and family who visit stay at this remarkable hotel. They also have a new restaurant Island Creek Oyster bar that is fantastic!

This was my second multinight stay in the past 4 months. The rooms are comfy; the staff -- from the doorman & valet to the desk staff -- are kind, friendly, & sincerely looking to make guests comfortable. Rooms service staff was exceptional with prompt delivery of delicious food. A a few snags, but essentially out of staff control. In short, it was a very busy weekend, so the hotel was filled with a cross-section of guests. Some rowdy guests behaved very rudely, diminishing the stay for others. First, someone apparently had a blaring TV, causing security to knock on each successive door, waking guests after 11:30pm while searching for the cuprit. Just after midnight there was repeat as some guests woke the entire floor again, shouting in the hallways in their revelery. Not what one would expect for the premium lodging fee for this wekend (yes, approximately twice the nightly rate in July!). While the noise was not something the staff could control, it seems that some accomodation should have been to address these interuptions since these "snags" adversely affected other guests. Great food at Eastern Standard and its new sister restaurant, Rock Creek Oyster Bar. The back wall is beautifully built with oyster shells, akin to a modern shell midden, if patrons are keen enough to actualy see it.

Was staying at this Hotel while attending a week long class at Boston University, BU negotiated a special rate and it appears that this hotel has worked well to keep its guests happy. Proximity (about 5 to 10 minute walk) made it ideal to get over to BU S Of M center easily in time for classes. A few restaurants close by as well as the hotel itself has an excellent one (Eastern Standard); room very spacious, very nice desk/chair setup to do work before and after as well as free ethernet (cable provided) access to the internet to stay in touch with the office. Very, very comfortable beds, great shower and the toiletries (shampoo, etc.) were spa level class. The whole staff seems to really enjoy their jobs, very friendly and always there to help without being overly so --- saw a fair number of parents of BU undergrad's (my last day I believe was the start of parents weekend) who had been repeat guests from the conversations in the lobby as I was waiting for my son to pick me up, tells me that it's very popular. Overall, would rate it excellent -- and if I take another exec course at BU this will be the place to stay. Only lost a point on value -- I still take exception to the high cost of hotels, but this one was at least in the same league as other 5-star hotels.
