got a great deal for this hotel on [---] for $125 and it was worth every penny. their service is exceptional. upon check-in, they make you feel very comfortable and everytime you come and go they agknowledge you. it is a small boutique hotel with a really cute lobby bar that has free wine hour from 5pm-6pm...

the rooms are a bit small but are decorated very modernly with checkered carpeting. the location was great. only 1 1/2 blocks from the North Station subway stop. I would of rather stayed in the Copley area or near Downtown Crossing but i really did not mind the subway. It was actually pretty fun!

i would definantely stay here again.

I stayed here one night for a mini college reunion, the staff were soooo nice. One of the three rooms we booked wasnt ready at 4pm when we checked in so they took off $100 the rate per room, and even threw in a free drink at the bar while we waited. The beds were super cushy with down comforters. The room size was average for a big city, but the bathroom was big I thought. Also we could walk to almost anything, North End, Fanueil Hall. Had an awesome breakfast at Kinsale an Irish restaurant nearby as well. Would definately stay here again next visit.

  • Liked — price, location
  • Disliked — nothing
  • Tips/Secrets — ask for a discount if you arent happy, they gave us $100 off the room when it wasnt ready at checkin

What a treat to move from the Westin Waterfront to the 2/3 as expensive, hipper, better located Onyx with my family (2 preschool kids). I'm typing this from the hotel's lobby using the free wifi.

Sure, there's no pool and the rooms are small (although with a family of four we were put in an end handicapped-access room and had plenty of space). The room was clean and well kept (especially considering the pet-friendly policy), and we liked the leopard-print terry robes. The staff is very friendly and personable, and if you bring your dog (we didn't) they make up a sign with a personal greeting for the pooch.

Kimpton hotels seem to be the Virgin Airways of hotels - hip, fun, aggressively priced and they don't try to assess a charge every time you turn around. I have a free copy of the sunday New York Times sitting next to me. Breakfast yesterday was great. Last night the "Ruby Room" adjacent to the lobby became a nightclub with a DJ, and it's situated at the end of a miles-long nightclub crawl you could do through Boston on a weekend night.

The Onyx rocks!

My husband and I stayed at the Onyx for a weekend in July. The location was perfect for us - it's within walking distance of the North Station, the North End and the Quincy Market area. The hotel was beautiful, but small, hence the name "boutique hotel"! If you plan on living in the room all day and night, that might bother you but if you want a nice place to stay at an affordable rate, this is it. The room was absolutely beautiful - and immaculate, which is very important to us. Down comforters, feather pillows, bathrobes, the Aveda bath products, we were totally pampered all weekend. The wine hour was an especially nice touch. After walking around the entire city of Boston each day, it was nice to have a glass of wine waiting for us when we returned to the hotel. Most of the staff was friendly and pleasant, but there were usually several women who worked at the front desk who were less than pleasant.... All in all, we will definitely be back there!

Stayed here over the 4th of July weekend. Its a really nice little hotel near the Boston (BankNorth) Garden. The small neighborhood tucked between Garden, the government center and the Big Dig seems to be in a transition period with a mixture of store front offices, bars, and some trendy restaurants. The streets all were busy and safe. Boston is a great town for walking and from the Onyx it was less than 20 minutes walk to Charles Town (home of the USS Constitution), the North End (Little Italy), Fanuel Hall, Long Wharf (the Aquarium), and Boston Commons and the Freedom Trail.

The Hotel itself is very trendy. Pets are welcome and when you come in there is are little pet bowls of water and treats welcoming the 4 legged guests. The staff is very efficient and friendly. The rooms are small but nicely decorated and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and very clean. Little to no views out the windows. Check their website for specials.

Two nights in 11th floor (PH) king prior to attending July 2 wedding in Maine. Hotel is gorgeous. Staff are most helpful and friendly we've ever experienced in a hotel anywhere. They take care of any- and every-thing for you with great enthusiasm. Four-star food can be had within walking distance at Mare in North End, which Onyx recommended and arranged. On our own we dined at Dante in Cambridge, Royal Sonesta Hotel, outstanding. The staff at the Onyx would bathe and feed you if you wanted it. Exceptional staff.
