“The most well thought out hostel”
Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

This is the most well thought out hostel I've ever stayed in. Excellent location plus free breakfast, free tea, coffee and cookies all day, very clean, great bathrooms, great bedroom format with little shelves, sockets and lighting for every bunk. Just great!

This is a very nice modern hostel with clean bathrooms (located outside each room, and equipped with a hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, and soap), large lockers in the dorm rooms (bring your own lock) and a shelf with outlets and a reading light by each bed. Free breakfast is served from 7am to 10am with hard-boiled eggs, cereal, bagels, toast, oatmeal, orange juice, milk. There's also free cookies by the reception desk, as well as free maps and ear plugs. And there's a small cafe area to buy bottled water ($1) and other drinks, baked goods, etc. The complimentary towel was also nice. The location is great; it's in Chinatown about 5 minutes from the metro stop, near many good restaurants and a CVS. Security is okay -- you need to swipe your keycard to get past the door that leads to the elevator and rooms. Washing machines, vending machines, computers ($0.10/minute, with $3 minimum charge on your credit card), and a printer ($.20) are also available.

However, this is the most expensive hostel I've ever stayed in, beating out other pricey cities like London. They also tack on an extra $3 a night if you don't have a Hostelling International membership. And don't forget the price ($46 for a 6 bed female dorm) doesn't include the 14.95% city tax. Other downsides: The Wi-Fi, while free, doesn't work in the rooms (nor did it seem to work all that well on my iPhone in the lobby). And the luggage storage room, though free on arrival, is not available after check-out. Instead you have to pay $3 for one of their lockers right outside.

I would still recommend staying here even though it's expensive by hostel standards. It's also very large with high traffic, and lots of free events and social activities, which can be a plus if you're a solo traveler (and the door was thick enough to keep out the noise in the room). The free Silver Line bus also takes you right from the airport to the South Station, which is about a 20 minute walk from the hostel.

Stayed here on a recent trip to Boston. The facilities are fantastic, very modern and clean. The staff are very energetic and helpful.

I stayed in a 8 man dorm and all the roommates were foreigners, all had interesting stories of travel and we spoke about their upcoming tours across the U.S. The hostels common areas are always lively and filled with interesting tales. Breakfast was free and there was a pool room and library and computer stations (small fee for PC) to use. There are also nightly trips to local pubs etc-

Aaron was especially great, he helped me and several others arrange local trips (I rented a bike). I've stayed at several hostels in the U.S. and Europe in the past, HI Boston was the nicest so far and if you don't mind bunking in a multi person room the price cant be beat.

Myself and my sister stayed in this hostel for about 10 nights in July 2014. I did not know what to expect having not stayed in a hostel previously. However it was the best part of our trip to Boston and USA. The hostel is in an amazing location, close enough to walk to major attractions and the center, and close to a tube (T) stop. The hostel provides clean towels and bed linen and they have lockers in the room which are big enough to fit in big suitcases also. The bathrooms are clean and also have fresh towels for the floor available. Breakfast is lovely. The hostel staff are really friendly and they organize social events during the week. Hosteling is the best way to travel as we met so many people and made some great friends from the social events that were organised. I would also recommend it to people travelling on their own because they will make friends very easily. Overall an excellent hostel I would recommend it to everyone.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room ask for it because the rooms at the front are noisy enough with sirens outs...

I stayed at the HI Hostel in June and was very impressed with it. First you should know that this is a big hostel with very high traffic. Because it is very large there were some groups staying there which in my opinion is a con. I had to speak to a large group about their running around and yelling because they didn't seem to understand that people in hostels are all on different clocks having come from around the world. Despite this, I found it to be a good, friendly atmosphere. The rooms are simple, with a large cubby and individual hooks. I found the cubby to be superior in size to other hostels. The bathrooms are individual which is another plus for those wanting privacy. I had a few issues while I was there but the staff were incredibly responsive and promptly rectified all issues. I thought all staff were fantastic.

You should note that this hostel is pricey. I stayed in two different rooms when I was there: first, a 6 bed and secondly a 4 bed. The 4 bed was more money and it was nowhere as nice as the 6 bed. If I were to return, I would not pay the extra money for the 4 bed. That room was dark, lacked the same lighting, noticeably smaller and had exposed HVAC venting and piping in it very close to the top bunk. I am sure they are not all like this but that room should not have been priced at a premium.

All in all, I would return. The organized outings that I attended were great: Freedom Trail tour and pub crawl. Highly recommend.

This was our penultimate stop on a two month long trip from Central America up to New York, it was one of our most memorable parts of the trip and this hostel definitely made it more special. If you are truly used to roughing it as we did, it will feel like a 5* hotel in comparison. You can't be disappointed if you are looking for a budget place to stay in Boston

This hostel is slightly expensive however its obviously new and the location is spectacular. Very accessible to the subway and right downtown. The rooms were large with a great little bench in each bed to charge phones, put your handbag etc. Bathrooms were always clean with towels and bath mats provided. There was a great free city walk with Aaron through the hostel which was very informative and gave a beautiful look at the city. Also there was a free breakfast - fairly simple stuff but who can complain when its free? My only fault with the hostel was the no alcohol policy - while i see the reasoning behind this, there were a number of 19,20 year olds that we met and it really restricted where we could go. Boston is very strict and most places wouldn't let a group in without parents if underages were present. So we couldn't have a beer at all if we wanted to stay as a group. That said it was overall a fantastic hostel and would recommend to most
