Our family enjoyed walking around the north end and then eating at this jewel of an Italian restuarant. Very elegant and great gourmet food. I would highly recommend this restaurant for out of town visitors for us who want to experience the Italian side of Boston

Charming setting nestled within a bustling street in North End. Our initial impression can be best described as skeptical as we entered a very small "lobby" and were rather abruptly taken to our table upstairs. Fortunately, the rest of the evening served to make this one of our favorite restaurants. The restaurant consists of several small dining rooms, making for a very intimate dining experience. We dined in the top floor with open windows looking out over the cobblestone street below. Made me feel a bit like Italy. There is even a private room for 2-4 people that looks as if it would be perfect for that special occasion. The food was outstanding- tuna tartar, halibut, grilled scallops, figs and prosciutto. Surprisingly, the waiter recommended that although they had delicious deserts, we might want to visit the Modern Bakery down the street for some of their famous canolli. It was a great suggestion for we tourists as we enjoyed the energy of the patrons in line.

This restaurant ticks all the boxes. Outstanding food , attentive service , excellent ambience and fine wines. We started with figs prosciutto and the lobster pasta- which was outstanding and filled with sweet succulent lobster! We both opted for the tenderloin served with foie gras - another sublime dish ! We shared a tiramisu which was excellent.
Other reviewers have commented on the prices but we found them to be really reasonable for the standard of fare served up. Certainly in Australia you would expect to add another $80.00 on to the bill for the same dining experience.
To my mind this is certainly a great restaurant not to be missed if you want a special dining experience.

The restaurant is nestled in the heart of the Italian district on quaint cobbled stone street. It's a 19 century row house with very open rooms, one of the seating areas have open floor to ceiling windows with black wrought iron fences, giving you the idea that you're sitting on a terrace. The hall ways were narrow and the stairs steep leading up to the upstairs dining area. The main dinning area was a bit too loud but manageable, the tables were tightly arranged but not terribly uncomfortable. Now the food, we had the Bay Scallops, Figs & Prosciutto and the Mozzarella & warm Tomatoes as an appetizer.......Absolutely finger liking good! As the main meal we had Halibut, Swordfish, Osso Bucco and the Short Rib. The fish are the catch of the day so they are fresh and the menu is based what fish is available at the market. Every one of our meals were beyond beautiful and without a doubt one of the best meal that we had as group, one was as good if not better than the next. The only issue is parking, like all of Boston, we walked 1/2 mile from our parking to the restaurant, that's before we knew they had valet parking. The bill was on the money, a bit expensive but well worth the time and expense.

We wanted to experience North End Italian food during our stay in Boston. Mamma Maria's was a fantastic choice. It has several rooms, different floors and we actually had a view of people walking by on a Saturday night. The osso buco was mouth watering, salads were fresh and savory, staff were prompt and pleasant and overall we had a wonderful time. I highly recommend this wonderful authentic restaurant.
