Rented a boat from Steve at Boston Harbor rentals for an early evening trip around the harbor and islands. Had my 20 year old son w/me - the trip as a birthday present for him. We had a great time. Steve was waiting for us on time at the dock, boat had a full tank of gas and he gave us excellent instructions/directions. Yes, the boat is a bit tired, but these are rentals and used by many different people.

A great father-son night out and terrific views for a decent price.

Great day on the water. We rented the 25 Sea Craft and took it all over the Harbor. I had also explored other areas I had never been with the help of the staff they pointed out on my map where to go etc. Street parking is tough with all the construction going on in the area, but there is a lot right next door for $18. Def. would do it again.

My fiancé and I spent the week preparing for a fun day on the harbor just to be let down which led to the worst boat rental company ever who can't seem to get scheduling correct.
Our time was 12-4 and it turned out too be from 2/6.
First when we get to the location given by the Internet we were led to the wrong spot, second we had to pay 40 bucks for parking which led us to be walking a half a mile with coolers and supplies. Third when we finally got to the place to rent the boat they tried to have someone boat us around. We were told by don that a cash deposit would be seffuciant to the same as a credit card but the employe was arguing about taking it and denied it saying he had all this money in the boat and didn't want to loose his investment bc of dumb people who don't know how to drive a boat. Fourth the boat we rented was complete junk, no place to sit together as a family not to mention I had to stand up to drive the boat. To top the cake the owner called and asked us to bring the boat back 3 hours early and he would give us a price break for the next business day knowing we were from ny not boston and didn't have time to just rent the boat another day. All said this company is a joke and I will never suggest anyone rent a boat from this place. They can't seem to manage time, money, or customer service and this is why I would never spend a dollar with them ever again. Waste of 180 bucks and 2 hours of our lives.

For my birthday this year, me and a few friends rented the 20' center console Wellcraft from Boston Harbor Boat Rentals for a four hour cruise on a Saturday. Start to finish, it was one of the best experiences I've had in the Boston area.

The person I spoke to over the phone (think his name was Tom) was very friendly and accomodating, and happy to answer all my questions. Moreover, he was very relaxed, and made you feel like you were talking to a friend rather than someone there to nickel and dime you or go on and on about forms, liability waivers, and the like (which can be par for the course with boat rentals).

The 20' center console we took out was spacious and comfortable - just the right size for six people (though depending on conditions and the size of the people in your group, you may have to have people shuffle around just to keep the boat balanced and riding right). There's a nice U-seat upfront where most people will want to sit, and then we usually had a few of us around the console and to the sides of it. The boat was easy to drive - steering was spot on, throttle and engine in good shape, and equipped with a great depthfinder and set of instruments (all visible with polarized glasses on, which is a plus).

We did a nice cruise through the locks and into the Charles River basin rather than going out to the islands. This is a great way to see the skyline, and very leisurely (the river is mostly a no-wake zone). We packed a cooler and some snacks and found the whole experience to be very relaxing.

As their website notes, you do have to refill the gas tank before returning the boat - this seemed annoying at first glance, but was not an issue at all in practice. We had more than enough time to go very far up the Charles (decently past the Harvard boathouses), cruise back to the harbor, grab gas under the Tobin (in 3.5 hours on the Charles we used less than three gallons, so it only cost $15 to refill and even that was probably overkill), and head back to the dock.

Finally, need to point out that the staff at the dock is great. Steve was always available on the phone when we had questions about the boat (looking for the horn/whistle at one point), and was flexible when he had to go assist another boat and gave us a little extra time.

All in all, a great time, with no complaints!
