This review is really about a 4.5 rating due to a small critique item with the breakfast in the restuarant, but everything else was absoutely perfect so I rounded up to 5. My wife, mother-in-law, and I spent four nights here on vacation in the Boston area, and I researched all theh hotels. Mom is almost 92 years old and needs some extra care due to medications, possible wet slippery baths, her own feeling of security, etc, so we asked for adjoining rooms (we got #555, City View Premier King for us and #556, City view, two queen beds Premier for Mom). Wouldn't you know it, the very busy Boston Fire Deparment was right across the street, but at night (we go to bed about 9pm), we never bothered by sirens or other noise...so don't let that scare you. The hotel accomodated us nicely and when Mom found the beds just a bit high to crawl into easily, the hotel provided a stepping stool to assist her. The location is perfect, and we were sold on the fact the hotel is very modern and had a separate glass shower from the tub. The bathrooms were all marble, very nicely sized, and well-lit with all the amenities one might need. The room was also not wanting in space, as there was plenty of open floor, closet, and drawer space. It was a little wierd to see the Keurig coffee machine in the cabinet under the counter out of a real usable place, so we just didn't bother to use it, knowing the restuarant had plenty of good (Illy brand) coffee for us. The front desk staff was efficient and very polite, and the housekeeping staff was good also (though near the housekeeping room on the 5th floor while walking from the elevator, I heard ladies talking behind the door while also smelling cigarettes on occasion), kind of smelling up the whole hallway just a little bit in what we thought was a non-smoking hotel. The restaurant had a breakfast buffet on Sunday, but not the other days. The buffet was very well done, but it came out at 7:18am when the restaurant opened at 6:30am. They said it would be out at 7am, so I as fine with waiting 15 minutes that acutually turned into 35 minutes. Although there were not many in the restuarant at all (only three tables were occupied), I noted the other wait service was a bit slow, as my wife and mother-in-law got their food 35 minutes after ordering it. The hotel should arrange for the staff to come into work about thirty minutes earlier on days that have the buffet, and should try to be a bit quicker with service at breakfast. The delay was not a big problem that one day, but I am glad we were not in a huge hurry and it might pose problems for business travelers or those with appointments in the morning. One of the reasons people pay more to eat breakfast in a hotel is time and convenience, so this was a area where the service sagged as that advantage was lost. Nonetheless, the host and wait staff were pleasant and the food was good. I will say, however, $18 for a waffle with berries was a bit too pricey, and $6 for a glass of orange juice was nutty...and this takes into account we travel all over the world and even 5-star hotels in Europe do not have these prices. $10 for a 10-oz juice smoothie was also a bit crazy. I'd expect $4 and $7 for those beverages (respectively) is more reasonable. Coffee was $5 but it was good and we got plenty of refills. Still, let's be real here...where coffee and juice for three comes out to $39.50 including 20% tip, someone running the restaurant is missing the point--so not very good value in the restaurant at breakfast. We had to depart the hotel at 5am on our last morning, so had planned to eat dinner at the restaurant (Miel) the night before--but we canceled just in case the service would be slow--I did not want my last night in Boston to be a disappointment so we didn't open ourselves up to that possibility. The Thai restaurant across the street did us just fine anyway as we'd had all sorts of seafood and italian food thus far across the region. All in all, this was a great place to stay and given the room quality and location, I'd recommend this hotel. Like I said, it could easily be a "4" but I rounded up to "5" on the benefit of the doubt, and the fact the staff took such great care of my mother-in-law overall made it a great place to stay.
