“Best kept secret in Boston...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2008

Booked this as a special treat on a recent trip to Boston. Managed to get it to concide with sunset to add a little something extra. This was easily the best thing about our trip, besides watching the Yankees beat the Sox at Fenway! From the moment we boarded the gondola, our driver made us feel at ease. We were encouraged to take off our shoes, put our feet up, and relax. There was an unobtrusive accordian player who quietly played classics in the background. They also provided us with a wine bucket to chill a bottle of wine or champagne for our ride. This ride is a private way to enjoy seeing the city from a different perspective without the crowds of the duck boats or ferries. Perhaps a little pricy, but not much more than you would pay in Venice for the same amount of time on the river. Great for a special or romantic occasion.

“Gondola Ride on the Charles River”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2007

A unique sea experience available in Boston that is probably not as well known as some other water tours, such as the Duck tours, is the gondola rides on the Charles River, which are provided by Gondola di Venezia and depart from the Esplanade in front of the Hatch Shell (a great place to see free concerts, from classical to oldies). Not a big fan of small boats, I was, admittedly, reluctant to get on a gondola for fear that it would tip over. But one of the employees who gave a little talk before we set out on our ride assured me that this could not happen because the boats, which are built in and shipped from Venice, are constructed so they cannot tip over. Although anyone would enjoy a gondola ride, it is most definitely designed to be a “romantic” experience. In fact, several packages are available, depending on just how “romantic” you want to be. We opted for the least expensive package, which cost a total of $105.95 ($99 plus tax) for a 50-minute ride. In addition, I was given a single yellow long-stemmed rose (the color was selected to match my top) and a basket with chocolate and cheese and crackers, as well as bottled water, was waiting in the gondola. The gondolier, dressed in straw hat and striped shirt, offered to play recorded music, but I thought it would be more enjoyable without. The gondolier, who was stationed behind us, was friendly, but not intrusive. The boat stayed fairly close to shore—close enough that we could exchange words with the people on the shore who were enjoying the summer day.
