“Excellent Value, Great Location”
Reviewed 21 November 2013

With hotel prices here in the US going through the roof, I'd been exploring other possibilities for a four day trip to Boston and came across the Oasis Guest House. I'm not a frequent B&B/Guest House patron - I've had really good experiences and some really bad ones over the years - so I was a bit hesitant about booking the Oasis. On the other hand, their room prices were very very good and I am familiar with Back Bay. Plus they had received many very good reviews here and on other sites.

I needn't have been concerned. The folks who run the place were absolutely top notch - helpful, friendly and accommodating. My room with private bathroom (they do have rooms with shared baths that are even less expensive) was fairly spartan, but exceptionally clean, bright, with a very comfortable double bed, television, radio, and a large mirrored dresser. Edgerly Road is very quiet and the Berklee School of Music is just up the street. The breakfast was very good - typical B&B self service fare but with full use of refrigerator, microwave, and stove.

The closest "T"'s are about two blocks away, the Boston Symphony is a block away and there are plenty of stores and shops - including a Fresh Fields within 5 minutes walking distance and half a dozen music shops. Back Bay is very convenient to Downtown Boston, full of young students, and very safe.

You really can't go wrong with the Oasis - it is a great place to stay in Boston without blowing through your budget.

Room Tip: If you book ask if you can get a room facing the street. They have nice large windows and the stree...

We love staying at Bed & Breakfast hotels because of the personal attention we receive. That is exactly what we received at Oasis Guest House. Victor really made our trip feel as if we never left home. The rooms were not extravagant but they were kept nice & clean. The location is perfect to catching the T, Fenway Park, shopping, coffee & more. They also have a small kitchen that the guests can keep & heat their leftovers. The continental breakfast was complete with fresh fruit, variety of teas, pastries’ & oatmeal’s. Next time we are in Boston we will be staying @ the Oasis & hopefully we will see Victor again.

Room Tip: I would choose a room on the second floor to avoid the morning gathering.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. It's not fancy but plenty nice for us. It's super close to the subway, Fenway Park, and other places you'd want to visit. At night, you do hear a bit of noise from the street, but it was fine for me. Continental breakfast was good.

If you are like my husband & I and don't care about having a fancy room, because you shouldn't be spending much time in it, then this is the place for you. The Oasis House was very convenient for walking, subway, bank, coffee, restaurants, bars... you name it.. It was all close by. Felt very safe to walk around after dark. Our room was on the main floor and we could hear guest at breakfast time but other than that no complaints!

We booked at the Oasis based on location, cost and reputation. Our choice was excellent!
The rooms were well kept and cleaned. For 3 nights, we did not book an ensuite room - the washrooms across the hall were clean and spacious. A healthy food selection is offered in the lobby area to get your day off to a good start.
Being near the Berklee school of Music and the Hynes Convention Centre attracts an interesting mix of guests.
The Oasis is well-located to access nearby attractions such as Fenway Park, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, as well as the subway (the "T"). We found the T was both quick and friendly to use to get to the other sights we sought in Boston.
The bonus with the Oasis is the hosts. Gracious, friendly and helpful, they seemed genuinely interested in our daily explorations, and keen to assist with any problems we were experiencing. A timely referral to one of the host's own dentist got us in right away, with an excellent result, saving a (possible) risk to our great Boston visit!
When we return to Boston, the Oasis will be our first stop.

Room Tip: We had rooms facing Edgerley. The corner room, 105, was great, with a nicebow window to the street...

I booked the Oasis Guest House when I was in search of a downtown location easily accessible to the T and to a conference I was attending. Since it was early October and the MLB playoffs were also in full swing, finding an inexpensive hotel downtown was nearly impossible.

This spot fit the bill perfectly: affordable, lots of character, incredibly friendly service, clean rooms, a simple grab-and-go continental breakfast. One drawback was the lack of an elevator, but staff are more than happy to help you bring your bags upstairs. I thought sharing a bathroom would be an issue, but that was never the case: I was able to get my 6:30 am shower in, and the bathroom was always clean! My room was probably the tiniest single ever, but I was always on the go so it didn't matter to me.

You are within a minute's walk of a Whole Foods Market, a pharmacy, a Starbucks, a Dunkin' Donuts. The Hynes Convention Centre T stop is a quick jaunt away. The neighbourhood is nice and you are just up the street from a Berklee College building. Bring your running shoes, take a walk down Boyston and you find a park with a stunning community garden. Fenway Park is maybe a 15-20 walk - how convenient is that for baseball fans?

Boston has plenty of options if you need a gym, or a bigger room, or modern bedding and decor or an in-room coffee maker. But for convenience, location and value, and just a simple place to crash at the end of a busy day, Oasis Guest House is a great choice.

We booked this B&B for a couple of nights at the end of September, as this B&B was recommended on trip advisor and we thought we would give it a try.

First impression was not good. We got to Boston Logan late afternoon which meant we caught the rush hour traffic. It took us more than an hour in the taxi to get to the hotel and we paid nearly 40 dollars. I think there is a shuttle bus but I cannot comment more on this since we did not use it. Second impression was even worse... we found the whole booking quite confusing. In other words, you book a room at the Oasis Guest House and you might find yourself a few doors down the road at number 14 (Adams B&B???). We found later that they work together, but it would have been nice to be told in advance about this. Nevermind, we thought, at least we got there ok and we could enjoy some nice relaxing time before exploring Boston the day after... Well we could not be more wrong!! The room was very cold the both nights we spent there, so much so that we enquired about getting an extra blanket at reception. I later found out that the air condition/ventilation system was blasting cold air inside the room promoting the chill feel during the night. Another interesting feature during the first night was the neighbor playing a cello at 6:30am in the morning! As there is a music college nearby there are often students staying at this B&B for auditions. The room had paper thin walls. It was a good thing that we were still jetlagged so we were already awake at that time. Our first night experience was not fantastic to say the least.

There is no lift (our room was on the third/top floor) and the stairs can be a bit tricky carrying suitcases, so if you are a less able person, ask for a ground floor room.

On the ground floor, you will find the breakfast room, with all you need really. Pastries, English muffins, bread, coffee, tea, a toaster, fruits etc... It is plentiful, and the quality is overall OK. The buffet is a help yourself. The breakfast room is relatively small, with limited sitting space. In other words you might end up having to take your breakfast in your room (which is allowed).

All is not negative though. We found the people at the reception friendly and helpful. They provided us with blankets when we asked for them, advice on where to catch the nearest underground station etc... The nearest tube station is about a 10 minutes walk from the hotel so quite handy if you want to discover the city. The bedroom we stayed in was large with an ensuite and tv and good views on the streeet. We had plenty of space for our luggage too. The building is quite typical to what you might expect to find in Boston - brownstone building. The bathroom was also large with all the amenities you would expect to find in a hotel (hairdryer, soap, towels, shampoo etc...).

If you need to shop, there is an excellent Whole Foods store down the road (2 min walk). They serve high quality fruits, food, drinks etc... You might even want to grab a cheap bite there if you like.

All in all, this is an OK place to stay in Boston but I would probably stay somewhere else if I go back to this wonderful city. This place is expensive for what you get (we paid approx £150 per night).
