I recently attended a wedding of a friend at this hotel. I let the waitstaff know I was gluten-free and got totally separate things. I got a salad instead of soup, a separate meal (which I believe was the vegetarian/gluten-free option, but it was very good), and they even brought me crème brûlée for dessert since I couldn't be served the cake! It was very impressive.
Besides that, it is a lovely hotel and venue for a wedding, overlooking the Boston Gardens.

I have spent two nights in this hotel for my business trip to Boston. The location of the hotel is excellent which is at the end of newbury st just across the park. The king deluxe room’s size was very good. It has an extra comfortable king size bed, a couch, and a study desk.
The bathroom was small in size; however it was well lay out with molton brown toiletries.
The hotel gym was good but small, it has few treadmills, couple of cross trainers and few other exercise machines.

We recently stayed at the Taj in Boston for five days. We were attending our future daughter in law's graduation. This was my first time to Boston. We couldn't have picked a better location. The Boston Gardens were right across the street, and to the right, was Newbury St, where there is plenty of shopping. We also were able to walk to the graduation ceremony, which took place at Emerson College. Our bed was so comfortable, and the hotel nice and quiet at night. We had breakfast in the hotel cafe most mornings and a glass of wine in the bar area before bed. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The cost of the room was a little more than I would like to spend for this type of a trip, but it was worth it.

Room Tip: We had a partial view of the Gardens and overlooked the pedestrian walkway. We only spent time in o...

We booked a room at the Taj to celebrate our anniversary, thinking that we were booking a luxury hotel. While we had no major problems, nothing about the rooms, the property, or the staff make this a luxury property. It's comparable to many of the local chain hotels, which are better priced. This was immediately apparent by the long line at the check-in desk and the room size and furnishings. The bathroom was downright TINY.

They advertised complimentary car service, so we called ahead to the concierge to arrange dinner reservations and the car. We were told that the car did not go to the North End, which is less than 2 miles away, but only covered the immediate area (so what good is a car service??) and in any event, it was first come, first serve.

We selected a closer restaurant recommended by the concierge, about 6 blocks away, and requested 6:00 pm reservations. When we came downstairs to go to the restaurant and asked if the car was available, we were told that they did not put it into service until 6:00 pm! (I guess guests don’t go anywhere during the day.) Why did the concierge not recommend a slightly later reservation time?? When we asked how to call for pick-up when we were finished eating, we were told that the car only TOOK guests TO places, it was not available to bring them back.

This was such a crock. Is there a car service or not? Or does their complimentary jag just make for good advertising?

Other non-luxury touches included: a lack of synthetic pillows. (We were told they were “out”), very thin walls that subjected us to listening to our neighbor's TV late into the night, a maintenance man who barged in because he said I called him (I did not, but even if I had, I'd have preferred that he wait until I answered the door), over-cooked Eggs Benedict, and an understaffed café with slow service. (Lots of bus-boys but only one poor waiter trying to keep up.)

The included breakfast was a hassle. We paid a higher room rate that included breakfast, but the staff didn’t initially know what included. Finally, they let us order breakfast entrees and said we were “lucky” because often the breakfast only includes coffee, juice and danish (what they call the continental.) They double taxed us on it, because instead of just giving it to us, they billed it and then credited back all but the tax and gratuity. I was fine with the gratuity, of course, but objected to the tax because we had already paid tax on the higher room rate.

Two good points about staying here. Location, Location, near Newbury Street and the Public Gardens. The second is that, unlike the Eggs Benedict, the strawberries and muesli at breakfast were quite good.

Had this not been billed as a luxury hotel and had we not paid such a pretty penny, I'd have given it a higher rating.

We live in MA and occasionally treat ourselves to a night in the city. Next time we’ll do it someplace else.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing the Taj and for leaving your feedback on this forum. We greatly appreciate all reviews, as it is one of the most important ways for us to make the necessary improvements to the Hotel and service. On behalf of Taj Boston, we sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you faced during your stay.

Our complimentary Jaguar service is intended to provide added convenience to our visitors, and apologize that it had been more of an inconvenience for you. We offer this service to all of our guests, and is based upon availability only. In order to provide transportation to as many guests as we can, we have advised our drivers to stay within close proximity of the Hotel. Unfortunately, these areas have not been made entirely clear to some of our staff, as the North End is within this close proximity. I have forwarded your comments to our Hotel Manager, and will ensure the Staff follows the proper protocol pertaining to the car service. Additionally, we will ensure that the staff communicates to guests exactly how this service works, as its functions may differ from other car services. I will also make certain that each issue you encountered is addressed, and we will do everything we can to make the necessary improvements.

We are currently in the process of making various updates to our guestrooms, to include new carpets and televisions. This continuous process is a result of the feedback we receive, as well as our constant effort to do everything we can to create a luxury experience for our guests. We greatly appreciate your assistance in improving our Hotel, and do hope the rest of your trip to Boston was enjoyable. We invite you to stay with us again on your next stay in the city so that we can offer you the true luxury experience that we strive for every day.

Kindest Regards,

Taj Boston Management

This was my second time staying at the Taj Boston this year and I am less impressed each time. The rooms are just not up to the standard of a luxury hotel. The bathroom was so small that my boyfriend and I had to take turns using the mirror/counter space to get ready for dinner.
We did have a drink at the bar and the service was spot on; however, I think that it is time to seek out other hotels in the area until they do some updating.
