This hotel is always a safe bet with great location adjacent to Newbury St and all the shopping you could want. Restaurants are excellent, as well. Staff is obviously well trained and very accommodating. In the summer a stroll across the street gets you into The Public Gsrdens and famous swan boats on the ponds. Overall a great hotel in a great location.

Room Tip: ask for room facing the Garden

This is a small boutique hotel (I know it's part of a chain) in the heart of Boston. The rooms are small, bathrooms are nice and upgraded, service is charming and location is perfect. I visited Friday night with a friend (I am a Boston resident) and I felt that it was a hotel with a very European feel. Breakfast was old world lovely in a beautiful old world Boston room. Just perfect for our purposes. And centrally located on The Public Garden within moments of Beacon Hill and Copley Square. This is where lots of the sights are folks. Location is everything.

We book 4 nights at this hotel, we are really lay back family but this was more that we expect. Usually I don't like negatives review but in this case I'm for it. We arrive at the hotel and they give us a corner room because we need a roller bed, nice room and in 16th floor, and they have 17 floors, the last floor is a ballroom, we didn't know. So at the second night when we arrive our floor was with a really strong incense smell and my room also was smelly, so I call the front desk and the lady told me that it's nothing she can do about it, because some rooms have fireplaces and when they turn them on thats the smell that stinks all the floor. So I need to open my window and sleep with that open to help me breath. The second day we were out the whole day and return to the hotel at 7, we were tired so we order room service and try to se a movie, try, because we have a party above us. You can hear the music like you were there. Don't get me wrong, we love to dance and have a good time, but also we love to sleep and we love to have a 11 years old rested for next day. So my complains with the staff are, one aware the guest about the fireplaces, and second, put the guests of the party from the 17th floor down in the rooms of the 16th floor, not the regular guest , so they can still enjoy the party from their rooms. About the rooms, I will write another review, because right now I'm a little upset and still I have two more nights to go. Wish me luck.

Hotel has excellent location - overlooking Boston Common - close to many local attractions. We stayed in park view suite which was big, comfortable and had amazing view on the park. Working fireplace with wood/fireplace buttler service - it was amazing. I travel often and have never seen working wooden fireplace in hotel room. Good service and dećent continental buffet breakafast. I highly recoomend this hotel - in my opinion the best in Boston - better than much more expensive Mandarin Oriental or Ritz Carlton. Taj Hotel needs some refurbishment but despite of it has great atmosphere and charm of old grand hotel ( it is former Ritz hotel ). Excellent.

I can't imagine a better place to stay while in Boston. The Taj is situated in the ideal location - right across from the public garden, right on Newbury for fabulous shopping, steps from the start of the Freedom Trail, Boston Common, Beacon Hill, Cheers, etc. We stayed for three nights and had a room on the corner of Arlington and Commonwealth. Beautiful views, so it is worth it to upgrade your room category. Everything was immaculate, but what made the stay so memorable was the service. Extremely friendly and helpful staff all around. We were staying for our anniversary and each night we had surprises left in our room - strawberries, champagne, chocolates, rose petals on the bed. And hand written notes every single day. Talk about first class treatment. With that kind of service (and unbeatable location), I would never stay anywhere else in Boston. Highly, highly recommended.

Best places we went while in Boston - Pizzeria Regina in the North End, also Neptune Oyster (get in line early), Top of the Hub for a nice sunset cocktail.

This is a old hotel ( The original Ritz before being taken over by the TAJ group) but it is clean and well run. The staff are lovely and very helpful. we had a room on the 11th floor with a view of Newbury Street but that's not very important as you should be out your room seeing the city anyway! We arrived very late overnight (2am) and had contacted the hotel to keep our room as we were worried it may be given up to resell, particularly as The Red Sox were starting to play in Boston in the final of the World Series. We need not have worried - Amy in reservations had sorted this out for us. location was great - right next to the park and near all main streets. Cheers Bar ( the original) was just around the corner. Building works on Newbury Street did cause some noise problems but that's life anywhere. The room had 2 double beds , turn down service at night with slippers and was very good and at that price it should be. This is probably the second most expensive room ( and it was the basic one!) we have ever booked in a hotel anywhere in the world ($+++) . The great disappointment was no tea or coffee in the room - this had to be purchased separately and of course if you want room service this carried an extra charge plus tip. The other TAJ hotels we have looked at ( ie Cape Town) all have in room tea/coffee so why not here?. Wifi was also extra. In this day and age tea/coffee and wifi are a must. When we return to Boston it will not be to the TAJ - no tea/coffee or wifi means no us.
