“A hotel from yesteryear!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

If you have any desire to experience hotels the way they use to be ... stay at Taj. The interiors are elegant and refined and the staff is top notch. The bedroom and the bathroom are huge. And one of the greatest delights - Molton Brown toiletries!

I work out of town and stay in hotels just about every week. Staying at Taj is a wonderful change from the Marriott, the Sheraton, and Hilton. They provide all of the little touches that so many of the chains have eliminated. I completely forgot what turn down service and little chocolates on the bed were like.

If you are looking for elegance and class - this is the hotel for you!

Room Tip: Mine was perfect and it was in the middle of the floor - so no advice.

Let me start by saying that years ago, as a poor college student, I used to pass by this place when the Taj when it was the old Ritz Carlton and dreamed of the day that I may spend a night there. Fast forward 20 years later and when I decided to take my son to Boston I chose this for sentimental reasons. The location is unbeatable and the staff courteous and helpful but the guest rooms, while showing vestiges of the hotel's former elegance, have seen better days. My room had peeling wallpaper as well as a thermostat that was literally hanging from the wall. The furniture looked worn and like it had been there since the 1980s as did the rugs. There is a difference between old world elegance and tired decor. The view was stunning though and the beds comfortable. I have stayed in five star hotels in the US and Europe and sadly this did not live up to its rating, not to mention that wifi was $10.45 and parking $44 a night. I would say the Taj may be a grande dame but she is showing her age...

Taj Boston is a very nice and well located hotel located downtown. Rooms are very nice but much smaller than the Taj NY rooms. Services is very good but nothing outstanding. Great bar and a fantastic restaurant with a mix of international and Indian food. Right on shopping row !!!

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view of the park.

Conveniently located comfortable hotel. As befits a longtime and former Ritz hotel, we found the staff generally quite solicitous, and the rooms and halls have an old-fashioned understated grace. Our room overlooking the park was clean and spacious. The hotel requests proper attire in the public areas, so if (like us) you are in town to cheer on a sports team, bring something appropriate if you'd like a drink in the lounge. One major "ding" is that the hotel still charges for wifi - and PER DEVICE no less! It has been a few years now since I've had to pay for wifi at even the most "high end" of hotels. To nickel-and-dime guests already paying multiple 100's of dollars for what is essentially now a public utility is antithetical to the service ethic otherwise displayed. We did encounter one other snag. Due to a hiccup in valeting our car the valet manager graciously offered to comp one day's parking charge. This was not reflected on our final bill. The gentleman checking us out was quite skeptical when we mentioned the oversight, and another individual came out to interrogate us (You didn't get his name? What did he look like? When? What time specifically? Who else was there? etc.) before the charge was taken off. The transaction should have been smoother. But assuming that was an aberration, as the rest of our experience would imply, and assuming the hotel's wifi policy will eventually catch up with the times, we are likely return.

Fabulous location, beautiful rooms and excellent service! My fiancee and I stayed with our children in a suite for two nights. It was a great experience for all. We had a gorgeous view of the park. I normally don't sleep well in hotels, but here was an exception. The bed was so comfortable and the bathrooms were beautiful. Nice Fitness Center - better than most hotels. Loved the vibe in the hotel - classy, upscale, yet comfortable and very hospitable. The staff were friendly and very accomodating. Can't beat the location... right across from the park. Lots of restaurants within walking distance, shopping on Newbury Street and a nice walk to Faneuil Hall Marketplace... Highly recommend this stay!

We stayed at the Taj Boston for two nights during a weekend break. The hotel is in a fabulous location right opposite of one of the main parks, neighbouring on what I would call Boston’s ‘Bond Street’. We had a room on the 4th floor overlooking the park. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. The décor was a bit dated and the bathroom rather small. It could do with a refurbishment but because of the more traditional look and feel of the hotel, it didn’t really bother us too much – just keep this in mind if you are looking for something new.

We didn’t try any of the hotel facilities, so can’t comment on those. The only thing I would criticize was the arrival experience. The doorman was too busy counting his tip and didn’t help the taxi driver with our luggage – the door staff also didn’t open doors when arriving back at the hotel, which I would usually expect at a grand hotel.

The Wi-Fi situation was also a bit confusing as it was complimentary when we checked-out but at a charge when trying to access it in the room.

If you are looking for a great location from which to explore Boston by foot, I would recommend this hotel keeping my comments above in mind.
