I love a good boutique hotel. This is an excellent one. Charming, unique, comfortable and business traveler friendly, I loved the place! Found completely by random chance I got a room on the 10th floor and although there was no view, I did not care. There were so many fun and interesting features about this hotel you don't really need a view and if you do, on a nice day to go their rooftop with your music (the mechanical stuff is up there too and it's a bit noisy). What was not to love? They take your car so you don't have to struggle with it and drive you where you want to go and pick you up too! The concierge service was second-to-none. I got a theater ticket and a spa appointment with zero hassle. They knew what was what and where and were up-to-date. It was the busiest time of year with graduations and no rooms but you would not know it the way the eased each guest in and out. Kudos to this hotel group. I'd seek this place out for my next stay in Boston.

Last fall, my husband and I had to travel to Boston for emergency medical care for our little dachshund, Dixie. Our friends at LuxuryPaw.com and XV Beacon were over the top and made a difficult time as comfortable possible. Janine Francheschi at LuxuryPaw.com immediately recommended XV Beacon and put us in touch with Amy, the GM. She was able to accommodate us last minute in an incredible room which was luxurious but felt “like home.”

Upon arrival, everyone greeted us by name (including our pup) and asked how we were all doing. We were overwhelmed when we opened the door to our room. They had set out a plush dog bed for Dixie right near the fireplace with a welcome/get-well note thanking us for our stay, wishing Dixie well, and letting us know they had made a donation to the local MSPCA Angell Memorial Hospital where Dixie was receiving treatment. Even more over the top was a beautifully decorated plate of handmade, healthy dog biscuits with a personalized get well note piped in peanut butter. Once we got settled, we were also brought a lovely “human” snack as well. The fireplace, cozy furniture, to-die-for bedding, marble bathroom, large windows with a view of the Commons, and the overall “feel” of being in your own living room were simply outstanding.

Every time we left or returned to the hotel, the doormen greeted us by name and gave Dixie a little scratch behind the ears wishing her well. We ordered room service for dinner so we could hang with Dixie and the food from Moo, the on-site restaurant was excellent!

While we were only there one night, we felt like the staff were family and we couldn’t have been more appreciative of that kind of support at such a difficult time. XV Beacon is lucky to have Amy as the GM – she was warm, welcoming and couldn’t have done more to make our stay perfect.

First, we want to thank Janine at LuxuryPaw.com for recommending XV Beacon and thank our new “family” at XV Beacon for the outstanding service and genuine support.

If you are travelling with a pet, be sure to visit LuxuryPaw.com for the best pet-friendly hotel recommendations. The owner, Janine, has personally visited all of the hotels on the site with her canine companion, Beau. And if you’re in Beantown, XV Beacon is the way to go – with or without your furry friend. These folks do it right, period.

Room Tip: The high level corner rooms with a view of the Commons are amazing

How can you not love a hotel with a fireplace in your suite? A modern and elegant bathroom? A four poster bed with silken soft linens? Room service to now your socks off? Service that sets a standard. And you have Moo on the first floor. I love this hotel.

Room Tip: higher floor

Located on Beacon Street about 2 blocks from the Boston Common. It is also at the edge of the Beacon Hill and Financial District areas. Everything is walkable from here. We had a Beacon Suite and it was nicely decorated and comfortable with two club chairs, a gas fireplace, and a King size bed. The room had windows looking down Beacon St. that was not impressive, especially since the windows were filthy (maybe due to the construction going on). I did mention it to the front desk. Our promised amenities for my birthday had to be asked for. They did make up for it with champagne, chocolate strawberries, and a rose petal path to the bed on our last night after I expressed my dissapointments with the management. The lobby is tiny and not conducive for lingering. The restaurant, Mooo, was very good for breakfast and a dinner. A pleasant place. There are many places to eat casually a block away. The complimentary car service and concierge dinner reservations were provided flawlessly. A nice place to stay for the location, the small size of the hotel, and the car service. Loved lighting the fireplace by the switch next to my bed each morning.

Very good location easy access to all sites in city. Hotel staff great, make use of hotel cars saves on taxis.Moo restaurant in hotel brilliant although not the cheapest but you get what you pay for as they say. Hotel rooms a little on the dark side more lighting might be useful but not too much else to complain about.

This is a charming property strategically located on Beacon Hill near the T, many great restaurants, and Faneuil Hall. Given the amount of money we spent on these accommodations, I feel that the door staff was rather inattentive: they seemed to be inside texting and yakking, or outside looking in the opposite direction. It's not that I'm such a frail-flower, but the doors in this hotel are extremely heavy and the assistance not only would have been nice, but should be expected. On mornings that I went to the gym, I watched the doorman sitting at the concierge desk while I manhandled the doors. (Maybe he figured that since I was going to the gym anyway, I might as well get started on my upper-body workout by doing some door sets.)

Connecting to the in-house wifi soon became a daily (sometimes twice daily) annoying ritual. (Come on guys, this Internet-thing isn't a fad: let's get it together!) There was way too-much furniture in our room. Once we got rid of a bunch of chairs and tables, there was plenty of space. The concierge was very accommodating, emptying the mini-bar for us so we could use the frig, getting us contoured pillows, and making sure our shipped bicycles were picked-up/delivered by FedEx.

We were able to use the gym next door, but at this price-point, the hotel should have an arrangement with the gym so no additional fees are incurred by the guests. (If we had had to pay the required $15 daily charge to use the gym, I would have really felt ripped-off.)

The fruit bowls on each floor was a nice touch, but they seemed to be replenished infrequently.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to ask to have surplus furniture removed from your room, or to have the mini-bar...

The BAD - Connectivity to e-mail and the net with computers, ipads and phones required entering new passwords pretty much everyday. While it isn't a deal breaker the digital security seemed amateurish for a property so near MIT. The facade was getting a face-lift so there was scaffolding around the front door. That may be the reason only a couple of the doormen stuck to their post and got the heavy door open consistently. Others spent more time inside the lobby chatting than getting their work done. One bad thing was the quantity of furniture in the room. It was so crowded that we asked to get some removed during our stay. After that happened, we had a great spacious room. Finally, we never met the manager. We make it a habit to get to know them during our travels but never made contact at XV Beacon. We expect more of a management presence at high end properties.
The GOOD - Transportation! Great house car service that was a Godsend for my arthritic sister. The drivers made a real difference in getting her around. Great location near the T stops for Gov. Center and Park St. Housekeeping! got our schedule and did the cleaning and turn down service at good times. The doormen/bellmen were very good, too. Food! Besides great walking distance restaurants there is a convenience store and a CVS nearby for snack items and drinks. Breakfasts at The Paramount on Charles St. are inexpensive and delicious. The Starbucks at Gov. Center is good, too and opens at 5:30.
