XV Beacon
Ranked #15 of 84 Hotels in Boston
Certificate of Excellence

This hotel is nice. The staff is pleasant and helpful and the service is excellent. The location is pretty good (although not as good as the Four Seasons Boston's location). However, the look and feel of the rooms was just not for me. I'd compare staying at XV Beacon to staying in an old but really nice, well-kept brownstone. The showers are weird/old fixtures, things generally look old, and the hotel doesn't have wireless internet access. To access the internet, I had to borrow an ethernet cord and even with that, I had trouble . . . in line with the excellent service, someone was there in 2 minutes to try (unsuccessfully) to fix it. The music system in the room is pretty cool - there are speakers in the ceilings all through the rooms, so you can really enjoy music while in your room.

stayed at the XV Beacon recently. I have been in many luxury hotels worldwide but this is one of the best. Located in the very center of Boston- walked 15 Minutes to Down Town crossing or to China town or 15 minutes walk or less to charles street. The Boston Common is just slightly opposite the hotel and the State House ist just right next door. 5 minutes to the goverment center. Wow, I can not say enough for this hotel. If you like to do the city sightseeing, the Trolley tour stop is just slightly across the street! There are 3 convenience shops with ATM next to the hotel. If you heading somewhere in Downtown and don't know how to go- get a ride from Hotel Limousine service. It's FREE! Many hotel guests use this service but it always available if you book at least 1 hours in advance! The service from front desk, concierge, restaurant, housekeeping were just wonderful. My room/ traditional room was great and tastefully decorated. Loved the lighting and the Fireplace! Flat HD TV, huge couch and plenty of space. There is a Small Jaguzzi Tub which works very good. The Rainshower is to die for!! Ok, it's not cheap here but you get what you paid for. If you like a bit view go for the studio room, my room was facing the nearby office building but it didn't bother me at all, it seems no one look over into my room at least I'm walking naked. If you like to reward yourself when in Boston, go for XV Beacon and book at least a traditional room.

We are frequent travelers and use this site to do our research before we book our hotels. We stayed at XV Beacon over parent's weekend and were extremely disappointed in the rooms and the service. Our standard room was literally the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. At $575 a night, there was no dresser or even a corner to store our suitcases. They had wicker storage bins in the too small closet. We literally had to pull the one chair in our room out to gain access to the mini-bar, and then could not walk around the bed. Our room did not have hand towels or bath mats. The rain shower was nice but the shower door leaked and we had a flood on the bathroom floor. We had to make two requests for bathmats to mop up the floor. There was no coffee maker or iron.
The final insult- when we were checking out, they offered us the use of their car. Normally, at luxury hotels, using the car is complimentary, unless you would like to leave for a tip for the driver. Well, not at XV Beacon. They wanted to charge us $35 to get to the airport and charge it to our room. The taxi ride is only $18. Since our daughter is just a freshman, I would really like any suggestions for better hotels in downtown Boston or Cambridge.

Just finished a two night stay with two rooms. Faciities are very nice, but the service was downright incompetent. Incoming calls to my son's room didn't work, despite pointing out the problem the first night. Never fixed. When checking out at 5am, requested a bellman who didn't show until we were carrying out bags out after waiting 10 minutes. Asked the night before for a cab to be waiting for us outside at 5am, and of course there was none. Asked for newspapers to be delivered in the morning, and none came. Virtually every request was serviced with ineptitude.

We had a great "Girls Weekend" at XV Beacon. The service is wonderful, especially Mark who was our driver for the weekend.
Our breakfast was delivered at the exact time we requested and was very good. My only complaint was with some of the room features. We loved the TV, fireplace and stereo system but the lighting was horrible, the heat/ac was erratic and the only full length mirror was on the wall, right next to the bed. There were no hooks in the bathroom to hang your robes or towels. So overall, service, location and food were excellant but the rooms need a bit of design work!

We chose this hotel to treat ourselves for our wedding anniversary after reading a Conde Nast review.

The first thing that struck us was the smell of the grilled steaks from the restaurant which is in the same building. I really enjoy the smell of steaks but there was a serious ventilation problem going on and all the fumes were being pumped into the lobby.

The check in was handled correctly and the staff were friendly, but it felt a bit fake. As soon as there was a little pressure the real attitude surfaced. The front desk was generally dissorganised and simple requests such as having our car ready on time for our departure were ignored.

The room was nice and the decor impressive, but it was a little run down. There was a lot a noise from the street.

There is no pool and the roof top terrace was not operational in May... there were no spots where we could just hang out and feel comfortable. The complementary car service is not flexible.

In essence, you don't get your money's worth. You really pay for the image of luxury, but its far from the real thing.

We stayed at the XV Beacon in July. We were in a suit that cost over $500. The room upon first glance was really nice. Big windows, cool design, nice bathroom etc. However when we looked a littler closer there we things that were not so nice. The cover on the bed had a big stain on it, the light fixture was all cracked, and best of all there were foot prints on one of the curtains. They obviously are not keeping things very clean
The other thing that seemed a little strange to me was that the concierge recommended the same awful Italian restaurant to several guests that were staying at the hotel. None of us liked it at all. The restaurant must be giving kick backs. We had asked the hotel to suggest a really good Italian restaurant, and this certainly was not.

I must say that with the exception of conceirges , the rest of the hotel staff were very nice and helpful
