Brilliant staff - Mark and Lydia made our stay enjoyable by being so friendly and polite despite having to work such long hours - thanks
Our room was at the end of the corridor - noisy air conditioning
The hotel was clean and the room so spacious - lovely fluffy blankets

Room Tip: Get a room away from the road It's a long labyrinth of a hotel - remember how to get back to yo...

This hotel has one very good quality: it has an excellent location. A block away from the Boston Pops, two from the Prudential Tower and lots of shopping and with a "T'stop a half-block away. But the hotel itself is just ordinary and more expensive than it should be. Beds were ok, but room needs upgrading (ours had a iron-shaped hole in the rug), bathroom is small, the hotel charges for wi-fi, has no restaurant, and staff is efficient but not too friendly. Use it if you have to.

Not the best experience! Made reservation with India two months in advance, Problem she made for the wrong days. Called to get corrected they would no longer honor that rate that was also currently on their Wed site. We ended up paying a much higher rate! Although they did give us free parking for our trouble. Average room, shower drain did not work well, filled tub while showering. Picked Hotel for location to Fenway Stadium and other Boston attractions.

Room Tip: Ask for room close to stairs or the one elevator.

Stayed here for 3 nights in May. There are plus and minus points to this place. Plus points: Excellent position for visiting sights. A little cheaper than the normal Boston centre hotels. Large rooms that have clean bedding and bathroom. Minus points: Unwelcoming person on reception (quite rude in fact). Tatty and dirty hallway carpets and lift. Dated furniture. No free breakfast or restaurant on site. Small flight of stairs UP to the lift.

So, if all you want is a clean bed to sleep in, somewhere decent to shower, and transport in the vicinity then this is for you. If you like a little more 'ambience' for your money then it isn't.

As many have said the location is good however the location is bad! The hotel is dark and dingy and in serious need of an overhaul. The staff while not particuarly cheerful did help when asked. i dont ask much from hotels but this place made me feel depressed! good location is its one good point.

This hotel really was in a great location, but that is the best thing that I can say about it. When we entered the hotel its decor was really dated and felt more like a cheap motel. There was a charge for the wifi service (ridiculous - almost 4 dollars for 2 hours was the cheapest rate) that was not indicated anywhere on the website - the website listed it as a room amenity. Hotel staff did not appear overly concerned for helping, but did give us directions of where to go when we asked. Pool closed at 8pm. Showers were dated too - I am 5'4" and barely fit under the shower head, felt really bad for my 6'1" husband. Lastly, the hotel was non-smoking, but our sheets and our towels smelled terribly like smoke.

Location was excellent, but that's about it, the rest was adequate but no more, when we checked in nobody thought to tell us where the room was - we had to ask, then a finger pointed "that way". The real rip off however was the charge for the use of Wifi, we didn't use it but the minimum cost was over $2 for use, in a city that has free Wifi in nearly every cafe and public park, and parking charge as well.

MidtownGM, General Manager at The Midtown Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded 9 June 2014

Thank you for your staying with us here at the Midtown Hotel and for your recent review. I want to personally apologize for the issues you experienced, and trust that we will be taking immediate proactive actions to rectify our shortcomings.
In regards to your comments regarding the WiFi charge, like the majority of all hotels in Boston, the Midtown does charge for WiFi. However unlike our competition, we do offer many numerous plans catered to be the most cost efficient for our guests. In addition, the hotel has recently gone through an upgrade in our WiFi system, and are now offering one of the top WiFi speeds of all hotels in the city.
I thank you again for your review, and appreciate any and all additional comments directly at tsankey@midtownhotel.com. Respectfully, Todd Sankey, General Manager
