You can walk to allot of places and if not, hop on the T about a block away. Staff were very nice, room clean and spacious. It was nice to rest by the pool after a day of touring. Furniture out-dated but otherwise a good price for a Boston Hotel.

Great price for this location. Very close to the Prudential and Newbury Street. Beds were a bit uncomfortable and bathroom was small. Would have liked to be able to turn on bathroom light without disturbing friends who were still sleeping (no door on outer part of bathroom, only in shower/toilet area).

Stayed here for a conference, was not disappointed. Great location, room was clean and very average. Nothing fancy, but also nothing overtly gross/old/damaged/low quality. Lack of complimentary WiFi was extremely annoying however. Upcharge of $10+ per day for internet is absurd and archaic. Overall I was pleased, and had a very casual, uneventful stay at this hotel.

Before starting, it is necessary to put the “Midtown Hotel” (as well as all the other hotels in Boston) in perspective: Boston is not a cheap plaza for hotels. Prices are above average. So you should expect to pay higher rates than the ones paid for similar hotels in other cities.

Now going to the Midtown Motel, there are 3 key words about it: price, location and cleanliness.

PRICE: You will not get a better rate for an at least decent hotel in downtown Boston. Not even for ones with not such a great location as this one. We invested hours searching for good rates, and reached such conclusion. Unless you come across with a promotional rate at another hotel, this is the simple truth: no cheaper choice in downtown Boston.

LOCATION: It Is ideal. It is in Back Bay Area, Subway is at the corner, and it is a few blocks away from Boylston St, Newbury St, Prudential Center and Copley Place, South End, just to name a few. And as far as the other locations are concerned, there is the subway and the bicycles (I strongly recommend you use the Hubway: Boston is a great city to bike and nothing comes as cheap and convenient as the Hubway). The Midtown is a great base from where to visit the city, as well as to do business.

And regarding subway, there is another extremely important thing about this hotel: it is close not to one, but to 2 different subway lines: Symphony Station (Green Line) is half a block away (virtually, right in the corner), and Massachusetts Ave (Orange Line) is one and a half block away. This is extremely convenient not just for getting around Boston, but also to come back and forth the Airport (see my NOTE at the end of this review).

CLEANLINESS: The hotel is clean and correct. Period. It’s not fancy. And regarding its decoration and look, it feels like being on a motel from the 80s (except for the wonderful flat TVs on the room). But who cares? Those wanting this location and a fancier place, be ready to pay much more. We didn’t. We were not bothered by its Spartan and vintage decoration.

OTHER PROS: Besides price, location, cleanliness, and proximity to the subway, I should mention that it has its own parking lot (check the rates), and a swimming pool (which was closed at the time we stood there).

ROOM: Our room was large and included a small table and chairs, a wardrobe as well as a closet. Beds and pillows were great, and we rested very well every night. Though part of the wall facing the hallway was made of translucent glass, we did not suffer from noise from the hallway (except an expectable passing passenger), neither from the outside. There was a small coffee pot in the room, as pointed by other reviewers.

CONS: If you want Internet, you have to pay for it (in a city where Internet is free in many public areas as well as being this a budget hotel, it is strange that Internet is charged). Also, it is not accessible friendly: there are stairs to get from the street into the lobby, from the parking lot into the lobby, and from the lobby to the hallway towards the rooms. Though the stairs are just a few steps, they could be trouble for a wheelchair.

Just as a comment, the hallways are a little bit somehow like a labyrinth. It is good to remember how to get from the room to the lobby, to avoid being drifting around looking your way in or out.
All in all, we had a great stay at the “Midtown” and got exactly what we were looking for: a well located, correct and clean place where to crash at night for a rest and a shower, after being out all day visiting the city and its sights. We definitively recommend the Midtown for those taking care of the budget who do not want to pay extra for fancy things.

NOTE: The Blue Line of the Subway is the one that goes to the airport. Be aware that Government Center Station will be closed until March 2016, thus shutting down the connection between the blue line and the Green line. The only other line that connects directly with the blue line is the orange line. And that is where the proximity of the Midway Hotel to Massachusetts Ave becomes is priceless. In fact, we had 2 big luggage each, and had no trouble walking around the corner from the Hotel to such Station. It was a 5 minutes walk top. Plus, there is an elevator on the station to get to the tracks, which made everything pretty simple and effortless. Very convenient.

We recently stayed one night at the Midtown. The location was great and the kids really enjoyed the pool. The hotel itself is a little run down but the staff was very friendly and helpful and we were able to check in early. It was very quiet at night and the room was a good size.

The midtown is a good location with mediocre amenities and comfort. No free wifi is pretty weak for how much the hotel is per night. Very close to a lot of what Boston has to offer but for the price you can find something better.
