“Good Tourist Location!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2005

We stayed at this hotel for 8 nights in June, 2005 and found the location really great for a day's touring around Boston. The MBTA's Aquarium Station was at the door. (You can buy a bus and train pass) The Quincey Markets, where you could purchase a variety of meals, were a short stroll away. Either side of this hotel were places to have a breakfast or an evening meal and a pub drink. The hotel is a historical building with hardwood floors and an atrium courtyard. The decor is a bit spartan, but is a change from regular hotels. Front of house service by Christof was pleasant and he was helpful with directions during our stay. This hotel gave us the flavour of Boston and we could see some of the finishing touches to the "Big Dig". We would recommend this hotel for price and location.

The Harborside scores huge points with me for its simple, comfortable, and cozy decor. Dark hardwood floors, brick walls, and a sleigh bed! What a wonderful break from the standard carpet and utilitarian furnishings. The hotel is a well located, right near the Aquarium, Waterfront, and Custom Tower. It's also a pretty good price for Boston, usually under $200 per night. I found the rooms clean and attractive, almost like being in an actual bedroom rather than a hotel. The service was professional but not aggressively smiley - which is fine by me. The guy giving me my key does not need to be my new best friend.

I did notice a few of the furnishings are a little bit worn, and the bathroom decor is much more Holiday Inn style, failing to match the charm of the rest of the room. The hallways are non-descript, though the design of the lobby, which is open up to the top floor, is unique. There are loads of papers to read and nice leather chairs to relax on in front of the elevators. The restaurant was being remodeled.

Speaking of remodeling, the Big Dig is still goin' strong, 15 years and counting! I had a room on the street side (because I wanted the view,) and could definitely hear construction noise, though it didn't bother me. In fact, it was neat to look out and watch. Now I know why it's taking so long. (I watched a shovel push the same mound of dirt back and forth for days...) I am sure when the Big Dig is over, should it ever be completed, the Harborside will raise its rates, so enjoy it now.

Speaking of noise, I had read on tripadvisor that the outside rooms were noisy from the local bars. This was a Thursday, so I wasn't too worried. It ended up being fairly quiet, until about 1am. I was then treated to an extremely loud conversation - every word audible. Looking down seven stories I saw the culprits: one single pair of women smoking and chatting. I can't imagine how loud a big crowd would be. Anyhow, if it's winter or a weeknight, you should be OK, but otherwise, unless you're a heavy sleeper, you may want to sacrafice the view and take the atrium (inside, no view) room.

You can't beat the location of this hotel if you are a tourist and want to walk to the sights of Boston. The hotel is a block from Faneuil Hall Market Place and right by the Freedom Trail. We were able to park our car and leave it in the garage (not the hotel garage which was dissapointing, but one near the harbor for twenty dollars a day, so budget that in as well) and walk to everything we wanted to do, including a show in the theatre district, dinner in Little Italy, strolling in the Public Gardens, and of course all of the sights along the Freedom Trail. The hotel room itself was suprisingly nice, very clean and unique with brick walls and wood floors. The bathroom was fairly small, but clean, and everything worked. The front desk staff, though, could use some lessons in hospitality. They were uninviting, and seemed to be bored or unhappy (perhaps both). But, overall this hotel is a very good value for a clean Boston Hotel with charm, character and an excellent location.

Small but dirty and smelly (urine?) room. Had to change our sheets ourselves before being able to sleep. Great location ruined by poor quality quality.

The odor that the guest refers to is bleach. We regularly bleach our toilets, wash and bath basins as part of our preventative maintenance. The bleach odor usually dissapates quickly, or aerosol spray is utilized by the houseman. I apologize that we did not rid the the room of the odor of bleach as quickly as we should have.

We would have gladly changed your room.

Thank you,

The best part of this inn is that it is perfectly located for a tourist in Boston. You literally are steps from the T stop. You are like two blocks from the Aquarium AND Quincy Market and tons of shopping. You can sign up to do the trolley tours in the same area.

The rooms are small, but they're fine! They even have a fan in the closet, which we needed since it was 90 degrees when we visited!

There is also a 24 hour convience store right next door, so that's great too. Highly recommend to those who don't need a gym, and movies to order in the room, etc. things like that. It's got the basics and that's it. If you are busy in the city you won't miss any of it anyway.

We will always stay here when in Boston!

Good hotel, reasonably priced. Restaurant / Bar was closed for refurb but it didnt matter because there were so many bars and restaurants nearby.

Rooms were smallish but overall, very convenient for everything and good value for money.

Recommend it.

After a cruise from Montreal to Boston, we spent 3 days at the Harborside Inn.

Location was great, close to everything. Rooms are small but comfortable and tastefully decorated. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Would definitely recommend to others and would stay there again if our travels take us to Boston.
