We stayed here over Christmas. We loved the location - walking distance to Gaslamp Quarter, view of the bay.. Breakfast in the Vela restaurant was great. But the pool was too small, too shallow and therefore totally overcrowded, you couldn't swim. Apart from that, we'd stay there again.

We decided to visit San Diego after a quick trip to Seattle over the holidays. Once again we decided to stay at the Hilton Bayfront. This hotel cannot be beat for location. A walk along a boardwalk area to Seaport Village; to easy access to the Convention Center (we did the International Auto Show while there); to the Trolley System which we use every time. San Diego has a great bus, trolley, train system to get around to all the attractions from the border to Oceanside to Escondido and beyond. We get a corner room.....well worth the extra dollars....this way we enjoy the views the bay has to offer.

Room Tip: We always pick a corner room for the excellent views! Check it out!

We went for 7 day vacation to San Diego and had a great time in general. About hotel
Positive points :
1.Location: on a water, walking distance to Gaslamp district, Convention center, Balboa park- we walked everywhere and for father distances were taking a trolley next to the hotel.
You can by for $6 a pass, which will be valid for all day for trolley, busses and ferry.
2.Did I mention location?
3.Beds had comfortable mattresses and clean white linen, changed daily.
4.Food in restaurants in the hotel was surprisingly good quality.

Negatives:
1.Bathrooms were outdated, shower gave me impression of the hotel of the 60-s, not of the contemporary hotel. No magnifying mirrors attached to the wall in the bathrooms.
2.No fridges or bars in the room, it was hot , we had to request fridge, they brought it free of charge.
3.Rooms were not very clean, hallways were just filthy with trash on the floors and not removed for days dishes from the room service.
4.Service in restaurants was extremely slow. If you will decide to have breakfast in the hotel, you will have to wait 30 min to be seated, then, if you will decide to have buffet(which had pretty decent choices), you will have to stand in huge line to have your omelet as they have just one chef making it. If you will go A la carte- still very-very slow.
5.Check your bill: we arrived on 12/28, but didn't rent a car until 1/1. WhenI at check out I asked for printout of charges, I discovered that I've been charged for the use of the parking garage on 12/28, 12/29, 12/30 as well- 3 extra days ( even you have to swipe your room key card in order to enter garage). When I asked, why I've been charged for extra days, the receptionist pointed finger to garage manager. When I went to ask garage manager, he stated that they deal only with valet parking(which we never used) and that charges should be applied only for the days the card had been swiped to enter garage.Eventually they took off the extra charges, but it was disconcerting.
3.Bad, bad pillows. Had all week sore neck from horrible pillows.

Room Tip: Try to get bay or bridge view, don't forget to ask for a fridge to keep water cool, but you will...

Booked the Hilton Bayfront for our December 26, 2013 wedding. It far exceeded our expectations. The staff were professional, polite, and attended to our every need. The facilities were clean and modern and the view is spectacular.

The Hilton Bayfront is a perfect place to stay in San Diego -- Excellent location on the beach, within walking distance of the Gaslamp District, close to shopping and the zoo, Petco Park, and the convention center. Magnificent views of the city and the ocean make it an ideal place to stay!

Stayed here for an anniversary celebration. Beautiful view and location, but I would expect them to take better care of you when you pay that much for a room. No fridge, microwave, or other amenities; and it's $30 just to park there. I don't mind paying more for a nice room, but I don't like feeling like they're trying to suck every last penny out of me by charging exorbitant fees for everything. Wouldn't stay there again.

This is a well-run, well appointed Hilton hotel, on the water, at the very south end of the San Diego waterfront. It is next to the convention center, and connected by a skybridge to the ballpark and the downtown, making it an easy walk. Our rooms were on the 22nd floor, they were modern and clean, and maid service was timely and efficient. The staff are friendly, the few minor problems we had (jammed toilet) were solved quickly, with a smile.

The pool area is pleasant with multiple hot tubs (but the pool is only 3 feet deep, disappointing to my son but still ok for lap swimmers). Gym is clean and pleasant with lots of cardio plus a few mats and free weights. Restaurant food is good but, as can be expected, costs a bit more than the nearby Gaslamp district.

Parking with in & out privileges is $28 a day, valet is $40, but self-parking is not a far walk. As we were from outside the U.S., Wi-Fi was important for us, and we found the fee of $15 per device per day quite expensive, so we went to the Starbucks downstairs to poach for free. We frequently walked 10 minutes down the waterfront to the Seaport Village, a small outdoor mall with lots of restaurants and shops (such as the wonderful bookstore/coffee shop). Also to the Gaslamp district for the restaurants (like the Broken Yolk for breakfast or brunch), again a 10 minute walk.

As my wife pointed out, the Marriott is also on the water, also next to the convention center and is more central. But we still liked the Hilton and we would gladly return. The views are the best part, so ask for a view of the harbour on the 19th floor or above so you can use the "second bank" of elevators.

Room Tip: Staying above the 19th floor has better views, accessed with a different bank of elevators.
