“Perfect location for layover!”
Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

I'll start by saying I've reviewed this hotel before, so I'll try not to be too redundant. This time we were staying only one night on our way to Hawaii, but it couldn't have been better! Excellent shuttle service, friendly staff everywhere. We spent the day relaxing by having lunch at nearby Liberty Station, hanging out at the pool, and having dinner at Oggi's (local sports bar / pizza place right across the parking lot). Something new on this trip was the breakfast buffet on the morning of our next flight - and it was excellent too, particularly the great service from waitress Lisa B. (Great sense of humor, really should be in a NJ diner!) and omelette / waffle chef Armando. Too bad for them that SD has so many great breakfast places! Shuttle to the airport, and can't imagine a better place to stay for this type of layover. We'll be back there in a week for a couple more nights on the return trip, to enjoy SD a little more! Thanks for another excellent stay!

I don't think this was too redundant at all! LOL. Sounds like you had the perfect day before the tough stop in Hawaii (jealous)!

Thanks so much for recognizing Lisa. You see her name quite a bit on these reviews. She loves the hospitality business, and is one of our best. Armando is fairly new here, but has quickly become a valuable part of our team, so this is his first shout-out, and we will make sure he gets recognized.

Seriously, thanks for the repeat business and for this review. We look forward to your next visit!

What a nightmare we had at this hotel: Even having a reservation doesn't mean this hotel will hold a room for you. We booked a room 3 weeks prior to arrival with my family. email from Marriot confirmed reservation. See photo:
Upon arrival at 10:45 pm we were told they "over book the hotel" so no more rooms. We were then shuttled downtown and took an hour(driver got lost). They put us in a different hotel and a tiny room. No cribs in room as promised and took another hour before cribs got delivered.. I had to pay myself to take a cab back to the airport the next day as Marriot Liberty Station would not pick us back up....
I like Marriott Hotels but if your checking in late at this hotel(Liberty Station) you could end up not having a room even with a reservation...beware....
I am even a Silver Elite member...which means.... really nothing....well they did have to pay for the tiny hotel room but ONLY because im a silver elite...but that and a cup of coffee still makes it super inconvenient and doesn't make up for the lousy customer service...or my 25 dollar taxi ride back to the airport...will not EVER be staying here at Liberty Station..

Room Tip: Another other hotel room

I would like to apologize for not being able to accommodate you at the Courtyard Liberty Station on the night of 8/13. I agree that it is inconvenient and something we try very hard to avoid. Unfortunately we had some guests that failed to depart which resulted in us being oversold.

When this happens it is our policy to cover the cost of the room for the evening,(regardless of Marriott status) which we did. In addition we also purchased 6000 Marriott points for your account which is double what would have been earned during your stay. Upon discovering that you had to paid for taxi fare we purchased an extra 4000 Marriott points to offset that cost.

We pride ourselves on customer service and when things go wrong try hard to make it right. I'm truly sorry that you feel that we failed in this regard.

Again, I hope you will except my sincere apologies.

Sincerely,

Duncan MacDonald

The hotel was very clean. The rooms were big and beds were very comfortable. It is located in a great location. The front desk and driver of the shuttle to the airport were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay at this Courtyard again.

Hello Kimmie!

I loved the title of your review..."very friendly". That's what we are all about, serving our guests and having a fun, energetic culture. We spend a lot of time having fun with each other which helps create the environment we need to have in order to make fantastic guest memories. We are in the business of hospitality, and although we have failures once in a while, we succeed much more than not.

Thanks again, and we appreciate your business and review....please tell a few hundred of your closest friends...we need the business!

First time in SD. Have friends who live there and they advised to stay away from certain areas. All of them were ok with the Liberty Station area. This hotel is newer, and it shows. Clean, modern rooms with comfy mattresses and modern amenities (like MULTIPLE power points). Despite there being a wedding party there at the same time as our visit, it was a quiet, drama-free stay. The hotel is in a development with restaurants and a Starbucks walking distances away (about a block). Easy to get to location, easy to get to other locations from here. About 15 minutes from the zoo and Pacific Beach. The staff is great and very accommodating. They have a restaurant in the lobby that has a breakfast buffet. Ample free parking - just watch out for ants. On our first morning, the car next to us was covered in them, and we noticed a few ants in our car a day later. Nothing crazy - it happens every once in a while when you visit the great outdoors, I just wasn't expecting it here since everything else was so trouble free.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room.

Thanks for the great review and for staying with us!

Sounds like we hit the nail on the head with your stay, that's wonderful to hear. Our hotel is filled with hospitality kings and queens that love what we do...provide great guest memories.

Glad you liked San Diego and Liberty Station! I love coming to work in this beautiful area...very calming. I used to work in the downtown area, and although it's also very cool, it can be very busy...and expensive (parking rates are $35+ per night...OURS IS FREE!)

Very sorry about those dang ants. We put up signs everywhere, but they pay no mind to them! Seriously, between the rain we just had and the trees getting trimmed, it stirred them up for a few days, but they are gone finally!

Just a reminder, our Courtyard has a Starbucks in the hotel! No need to walk anywhere!

Thanks again, and we hope you return soon. Thanks for taking the time to write the review!

All the best!

We only stayed here 1 night, but we have no complaints. The hotel is nice and the room was large and clean. We enjoyed walking along the water in the morning - there is a great walking/running trail. It was quiet even though there were some functions going on. The location was not that far from attractions, just a quick drive. Overall, we would definitely stay here again!

We stayed here after having a terrible experience in an overpriced hotel in Mission Beach. This hotel was fabulous. It is meticulously clean, staff are very accommodating, and the restaurant is very good with a nice variety. Extremely easy to shuttle to the airport. We were very happy to have found this hotel.

Our family of nine stayed three nights here and enjoyed every minute! The hotel staff were superbly helpful and made us feel welcome. The hotel itself is beautiful and well-kept. Rooms are very comfortable and spacious. The pool and jacuzzi are perfect for the kids. The hotel is located in a quiet and safe area, and there is a nice park nearby with a playground for the younger kids. Within a short and pleasant walking distance are several restaurants, a grocery store, and Starbucks - the essentials! It is a very relaxing location and a short, easy drive to Mission or Pacific beaches. We will definitely be back.

Thanks family of 9! I hope you had more than one room! LOL! No family can be that close, right?!

With 9 people staying over 3 days, you would be able to see the good bad and ugly of any hotel...so very glad that you loved us! Our location and hotel is great for families. I don't know if you had a chance to take advantage of the Stand-Up Paddle board vendor that sets up directly in back of our hotel, but it's a hoot! Not much cost and the whole family can have fun. They have all kinds of water fun toys for all ages and they launch right in front of the hotel...very fun.

Thanks, and we hope you tell some friends about us!
