Almost every city of any size has somewhere that locals (and most visitors) label as a 'must see'. Some have a number of such places. Well, this is it for San Diego. I'd rate it higher than the zoo, if you have any interest in museums at all. If you're a gardener, you can spend most of a day there without spending a penny. Great early 20th century southern California architecture. If you ARE a museum fan, you have to buy a three day pass, and spend at least two days here. I'll give a reverse rating - there are a couple of attractions that I didn't think much of. The sports museum is fine if you're a football or baseball fan. The photography museum is okay if you're a keen photographer. The other museums range from good to great. If you're taking the bus, get a Compass Card at any Albertson's store and get a four day pass. Sorry, you can't buy a Compass Card on a bus.

There is almost nothing you cannot find to do in Balboa Park. A couple of art museums, a model train museum, a world-famous zoo, a national level professional theatre company, roses, gardens, food, trails, etc. This trip was a one-day affair at the park, but several years ago we came to the park every day for a week to enjoy something new. We were never disappointed.

For cultural enrichment and recreation nothing beats Balboa Park. Best municipal asset west of New York City - ie Central Park. If you visit San Diego, don't miss Balboa Park. You don't need to spend an entire day at the zoo. Simply walk down the avenue of museums or spread a blanket in one of the many inviting open grassy spaces located in all corners of this impressive site.

A beautiful park and cultural center set in a idyllic setting. You can stroll along the Prado or hike many spectacular trails, visit museums, galleries, a botanical garden, sit by the fountain, experience the Rose or Succulent Gardens, and enjoy delicious food, all within walking distance. Come make memories of your own and join others who have done the same, for almost 100 years.

There is so much to see and do in the park. It's free to walk around and admire the architecture, go through the botanical gardens, catch a performance at the organ pavilion, walk the trails, play lion the playground, stop and smell the roses in the rose garden, and explore the globe at the international houses. There are several museums which range in admission price, but residents enjoy free admission certain days of the month, making it with your while to do a little research and find what museum is free on which day. Parking is still free (for now), but it gets rather crowded on the weekends and gets crazy busy during the summer months.
