“Wanted to love it but didn't”
Reviewed 15 August 2012 via mobile

Had a studio apartment on a trip with my family. There is no air conditioning, so we had to leave the windows wide open otherwise suffocate, but nearly died of the heat overnight anyway. Between the heat and the noisy bar-goers we hardly got a wink of sleep. It was intolerable. Also, the place really does need some repairs. They're fairly minor such as a leaky, cracked faucet for one example, but it makes it seem cheap and rather crummy. The next day we moved to the Best Western a few blocks down. There we got a modern room with A/C plus a partial ocean view (no view except at the dirty alley from the studio room here) plus a pool & hot tub for an evening swim. I really wanted to love The Beach Cottages, but I honestly wouldn't recommend this place.

We go to Pacific Beach every year and stay with the fine folks at the Beach Cottages.
This year as other years the trip was awesome! The Beach Cottages are an older property but very well maintained with annual upgrades! Beach Cottages are walking distace to everything from restaurants, bars, groceries etc. The boardwalk is out the front gate for biking, walking jogging or just people watching. We highly recommend the beach cottages for anyong looking for a relaxing stay at the beach! Thanks to the staff and mnagemnet for the memories!!!

Three generations of our family (so far!) have been staying at the Beach Cottages for 20+ years. We love being right "on the beach", and we love the accommodations the Beach Cottages provide. Our room is always very clean and furnished with just enough kitchen amenities to make it feel like home. We also love being so conveniently situated near Ralph's (grocery store), CVS drug store, plenty of great restaurants, and places to shop! Definitely our very favorite place to stay every summer!

Room Tip: I don't want to say where our favorite rooms are, or they will never be available when we call t...

My sister and I stayed in the motel room at the beach cottages recently and we loved it! It was clean, comfortable, and the employees who worked there were very friendly. The best part is that it is literally one step away from the beach so we didn't have to worry about finding a parking spot. It is very peaceful and relaxing to just hangout in the room also because there is a tv, balcony that has a view of the beach, and the beds were comfortable. The only thing that was bad was the noise outside with all the people talking and such. So if you are a light sleeper, I suggest that you bring earplugs. Also, they provide silverware and a microwave which is perfect if you want to eat leftovers or bring food to eat. Speaking of food, there are lots of restaurants, shops, and stores that you can just walk to. ex: Joe's Crab Shack, Kono's Cafe, Kafe Yen, etc. The Beach Cottages is the absolute best place to stay in San Diego that is right by the beach. They are affordable, friendly, and amazing! We will definitely go there again (:

Room Tip: Try not to pick a room right by the elevator because it is a little noisy. Rooms on the south side a...

A co-worker recommended the Beach Cottages for a short trip to San Diego last week. I sure am glad I took her advice!! I only wish we could have stayed longer! We knew what to expect (nothing fancy) and it was right up our alley--come on, how much time are you really going to spend in the room?? LOL!! There were great restaurants, shops, etc. within walking distance--what more could you ask for? Would highly recommend--location, location, location!! Did I mention the price was right?

Room Tip: We stayed on the 2nd floor in the main building. Worked great for us, as the cottage level was FULL...

Our family has been coming here for years. The rooms are a bit simple and older. But, it's a good simple beach front cottage that works well when coming in and out of the ocean and beach while dirty, wet, and sandy. So, don't expect fancy frills. However, there is still a flat screen tv and wifi. It's been a safe and friendly environment for many years. Noise level was lower at night than I expected from past years with rowdy beach folks. But, the heavy equipment that cleans the beach "early" in the morning was the worst of the noise. Staff is friendly and housekeeping reliable. Safe parking on site. Very enjoyable time. Perhaps, someday, they will renovate and add air conditioning for warm nights. If you were able to close the windows it would be much quieter for sleep. But, for now the owners of this "gold mine" are enjoying the revenue of the place having no vacancy nearly every night while operating costs are minimal, I believe.

We have been staying at The Beach Cottages since 1979. It isn't plush, but perfect for families who play in the ocean and on the sand. You can cook in the room or eat in wonderful walk-to restaurants. We stay on the beach our whole vacation, so the only cost is the room and food. Cooking in the room saves a ton of $$ if the room is a bit costly for you.

Room Tip: no pool no restaurant the beach is not a quiet place and this hotel is right on the beach, so there...
