Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 27 July 2014

We chose the Westin because of its location in downtown. There were a lot of things to do within walking distance. Little Italy, the Gaslamp District, Horton Plaza, Midway all a short 5-10 minute walk. There was generally always a taxi parked in front if we wanted to go to Balboa or the zoo. As for the hotel, we found the room to be very clean and comfortable. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. We were quite pleased and will definitely use this hotel again!

This was my first stay at a Westin hotel and the experience was excellent. The hotel's appearance, in the heart of San Diego was just perfect. Clean, fresh looking with very friendly staff. The location was good with a short walking distance to the waterfront, Little Italy etc..

Room Tip: I had a room on the 24th floor. Great views!

We chose this hotel for a quick trip of 3 nights with my family (2 adults, 3 kids).

This is mainly a business hotel, and designed as such. However, families are all welcome as well.

The staff were very nice. We loved the service and the smile. Kevin, at Concierge desk, was truly helpful and helped us with attractions and restaurants.

Rooms are comfortable albeit small. They're most suited for business travelers. Beds are double beds and not queen. Bathrooms are good size. The rain shower heads are a good addition!

Pool is small. Use it by mid afternoon as the shadow from nearby buildings and breeze from Bay would make it a tad cold.

As for the restaurant, we only had breakfast at the restaurant. It's a tad pricy, buffet choices are limited, and service is a tad slow but still very friendly.

Location is wonderful: right in downtown and close to Gas Lamp Quarter & USS Midway. It's also close to museums and other attractions.

Be aware: Valet Parking is $40 per night! You should consider that when you book as other parking lots in the area do not offer in-n-out privileges. I am also amazed that most other 3 and 4 star hotels are starting to offer free internet, but Westin hasn't. It's time to change.

Room Tip: It might be worth it to upgrade to a high-floor with a view of the bay, Ocean, Coronado, and (at a d...

Thank you for your thorough review of the Westin San Diego! I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and all the amenities the hotel offers. As one of the only hotels downtown that offer a pool, we also have a great menu you can order from that includes Superfood choices to keep you healthy. Our signature Westin Heavenly bed and shower guarantee a refreshing stay and you can count on any of our associates to make sure you have what you need. I look forward to welcoming you back to the Westin San Diego.

Loneto38,

Thank you for reviewing your stay from October 2014. Since then, we have put in a $15 million transformation which includes all public areas, meeting spaces and guest rooms. We also improved the WIFI. I hope you can revisit us and experience the new product.

A lovely hotel with friendly staff and clean modern rooms, great bar with excellent food. Very modern and nice throughout. And very well priced for such nice rooms. No free wifi though which most hotels should offer now. That is my only complaint

Giving one star for location, but this hotel has shabby, poorly outfitted rooms and lousy service at very high prices. As other reviewers note, valet parking (only option) is $40 a night. We paid extra for a package deal on the website and when we arrived there was no evidence of the package / promo code we had added. They said there was 'nothing' they could do even though we paid the price point for the deal. They could have done plenty such as comping us breakfast etc. but just choose not too and made us call SPG to try & fail to resolve. Exactly not how to deliver good service.

ciphernaut – I am sorry to read about your experience. Parking is at a premium downtown and we are happy to offer valet service for our guests’ convenience at a competitive price with nearby hotels. We offer several packages at the hotel but none currently that is an opt-in deal. Please feel free to reach out at your earliest convenience so we can help resolve. I hope you think of us and Starwood’s many brands on your return to San Diego.

Great location, it was a little cheaper than the Gas Lamp Westin but you are still in the Gas Lamp area by all means. Room was spacious and well laid out. The TV was a little far away from the bed but not bad. The views from the 16th floor were awesome of the bay! The Karl Strauss brewery is a few steps away- great beer and food.
The hotel was clean and the beds and pillow were super comfy. I recommend

Room Tip: Try and get as high as possible and bay view!
