I love daily to walk Shelter Is. in Point Loma because it's flat and scenic. In addition to the myriad of hotels, cafes, and restaurants in this area, you can enjoy nature. At Humphrey's Inn near the outdoor stae there is a koi pond where ducks teach their ducklings to swim and feed. Also at the Sportsfishing Pier (near Pt. Loma Seafoods & Mitch's), you can catch a harbor seal swimming between the piers. And if you go between 6 - 7 a.m., you can see a display of fish, such as tuna (July 2019) that were caught overnight and being weighted/displayed in front of H&M Landing.
Worth the drive, another must see spot when you're in San Diego. There's not much at the end of the road other than the monument, but if you have access to a car, do it!
I cannot go to San Diego without spending significant time at Point Loma. The views from here are just top-notch. Not only can you see great views of the city, Coronado Bridge, and the harbor, but you could also appreciate the vastness of the Pacific Ocean. We were very fortunate to be able to spot a submarine on a training run. That was very cool. A drive down to the tide pools is a must. You really get a feel for the power of the waves as pounds into the nooks and crannies of the shoreline. The gift shop at Jose Cabrillo Monument is nice. They let you check out binoculars for free.
Drove all they way up, scenic road. Waited for ages in a very slow moving que.
Found out there was a state park fee $20.
Turned around and went to the cemetery, such a sad but beautiful place.
Very moving to see, also great views from this area.
I’m sure Pat Lomas would be worth the wait, but we were time poor on the day.
There a small entrance fee but this is a must see. The light house is right there and you can walk up the stairs and see the accomodations.
