Owner description: The San Diego Museum of Man is your museum! Join the hundreds of thousands of people each year who come to see its exhibits on beer, monsters, torture, race, human and primate evolution, and more. You can also experience one of most important ancient Egyptian collections in the United States, which includes authentic Egyptian mummies, an exceptionally rare child sarcophagus, and one of the world's few surviving examples of Nefertiti's cartouche. Also, for the first time in 80 years, we are now offering guided tours of the California Tower - one of San Diego's most iconic landmarks. Tower tour tickets are timed like theater tickets, so be sure to purchase tickets in advance to secure your desired date and time.

Loved this museum. The building is beautiful and the exhibits are arranged for maximum impact. Love the flow of it and all the exhibits. Nothing boring about this museum. Plenty of photo opportunities and not stuffy at all,

“Must see!”
Reviewed 22 December 2013

Very creative museum.

There are so many sections to this place is kind of exhausting. Haha. The lower floor shows the way different cultures celebrate their coming of age, weddings, etc. You go upstairs and there's even more exhibits! How man is similar to gorillas, the existance of mummies, a kids area,

“Exhibit of Torture Instruments!”
Reviewed 11 December 2013

I had limited time and decided to visit the exhibit of torture instruments. I unfortunately missed that the museums in the Balboa Park are free during weeknights and paid $20, which was definitely at the higher end even though the exhibit was very interesting.

“Interesting museum”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

We found ourselves in Balboa Park a few weeks ago and there were so many things to do and see, includng so many museums so it was difficult to make a choice.

We also had limited time and finally decided to try the Museum of Man. We did not pay extra for the torture exhibit as we were not interested to see that.

As for the rest of their exhibits they had appeal to both my husband and me. The beer and the Mayans and Egyptian exhibits were our favorites but the whole museum was very interesting and well laid out and we really enjoyed our visit.

Don't miss the movie about the Mayans which is playing downstairs in a separate section of the museum. We wish we would have started there before seeing the Mayan exhibits.

We spent at least 3 hours at this museum and could have spent more time! We would definitely go back.

“Interesting Exhibits, Short visit.”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

The Torture Exhibit was very well presented and had plenty of interesting items, easily spend an hour reading and examining everything. The Mayan & Egyptian, although quite small, had some nice pieces and set-up.

The rest of the museum seemed geared more towards school groups or the like (and there were quite a few about on the day of my visit = noisy). Interactive pieces that will most likely not entertain most adults.
