Owner description: Museum that celebrates the important role of art as a way of enriching lives by featuring American, Dutch and Flemish, French, Italian paintings and Russian Icons.

This is a free art museum and although the collection is small it is world class. Don't miss the Russian icons which are worth much more than the price of admission:free. Stop by the San Diego Art Museum next door also but you need to pay admission to get in there. When you are done go to the sculpture garden west of the SD Art Museum for some good San Diego craft beer and lunch.

Hi Folks. I you are in San Diego and have some time, go to the Timken Museum of Fine Art in Balboa Park. For a small museum, they pack a heck of a punch. They have most of the main artists from 1500 to 1900. This little gem is quite a surprise. Regards, OldeBear

My parents and I are not major art enthusiasts, but decided to take a look inside because they were offering free admission on the day we visited. The collection was nice without being overwhelming and we easily made our way through in a little over a half hour. There were quite a number of religious paintings and artifacts featured, as well as portraits and landscapes.

This small art museum definitely has some wonderful art. It dates all the way back to the 1400's. Great for a stop while you are here. Definitely not a reason to visit.

The exquisite modern box is almost hidden on the plaza side, and its best elevation is from the north or east across the reflecting pond. Inside, a small but superb collection of masterpieces spans 600 years of beautiful art history. It it the perfect size for the whole family to enjoy, and it's free!
