“a great free museum”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

A wonderful place with great docents who know the history of the museum and the family who donated as well as each and every painting. In terms of a small museum I think its a gem and if you are visiting the other museums it certainly is worth an extra hour or two of your time.

“A Rare Gem”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

Great art in a very small venue and surprisingly, absolutely free of charge. (Donations accepted). If you're in the heart of Balboa Park and planning to go to the larger more impressive museums, this one is worth an extra hour or more of your time.

“A little gem in the park”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

This is a free art museum and although the collection is small it is world class. Don't miss the Russian icons which are worth much more than the price of admission:free. Stop by the San Diego Art Museum next door also but you need to pay admission to get in there. When you are done go to the sculpture garden west of the SD Art Museum for some good San Diego craft beer and lunch.

“Great Small Museum”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

Hi Folks. I you are in San Diego and have some time, go to the Timken Museum of Fine Art in Balboa Park. For a small museum, they pack a heck of a punch. They have most of the main artists from 1500 to 1900. This little gem is quite a surprise. Regards, OldeBear

“Nice little Collection of Art”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

My parents and I are not major art enthusiasts, but decided to take a look inside because they were offering free admission on the day we visited. The collection was nice without being overwhelming and we easily made our way through in a little over a half hour. There were quite a number of religious paintings and artifacts featured, as well as portraits and landscapes.
