There are many things to be grateful for, but talent comes from the heart. More than enough talent in one place.

“Very diverse”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 January 2013

This museum covers quite a range. There are several galleries that currently have Asian exhibits and several focusing on American art. They are curated differently. One of the Asian exhibits was devoted to the story-telling art of India, with pages that were meant to be seen only rarely. The illustrations are so delicate and the extensive collections were contained in a small gallery. This contrasted with the American exhibit that was very bold and displayed spaciously for appreciation. The upstairs gallery contains the permanent exhibits.

There is an excellent cafe adjacent to the museum, although you have to enter outside of the building. It's to the left as you face the building. They have both table service and counter service. Their sandwiches feature interesting and tasty combinations - fig and prosciutto was delicious. The ambiance, which looks out either over the square or over the sculpture garden
is very relaxing.

“A compact yet diverse collection”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2013

A lovely building in Balboa Park housing a small yet diverse collection of work. The collection is presented in a series of smallish rooms over two floors. There is something for everyone. At the time of our visit we enjoyed a temporary exhibit of a celebrated California landscape artist as well as a themed collection of American Art. The European masters are well represented in the upper floor but in small number of works by each artist. The staff were friendly and helpful. An enjoyable visit.

“Art in Balboa”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2012

The San Diego Museum of Art is wonderfully located in a stylish 1913 building in Balboa Park. The foyer provides a great atmosphere on entry into the Museum and the building has been adapted to it's current role in a very stylistic way ($10 entry charge). The displays are presented very effectively - and the collection is impressively large for a regional/city collection. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit.
