This museum isn't very big and can be seen in an hour or less.
Not worth the fee unless you love learning about the history of SD and SoCal.

Other museums at Balboa more worthwhile.

Thank Martha S

The so-called San Diego Historic Center is a disappointment, which is the least I can say. After driving by car into San Diego, the centre was everywhere on the board, except in reality to be found. A small strip (150-150 meters) is the so-called historic centre, full of made up Western sheds, restaurants and museums. However, all seems already to be fake, no real feeling in there, could be a Hollywood movie set, but the kids enjoy. For an European this is a disappointment, after Florence, Rome, Washington DC, Cairo, Damascus, Jeruzalem or even small old towns in the Netherlands

It's OK if you're doing a history report on the city, and worth the visit if you go in for free. While it was free to visit for Smithsonian Free Day, there are other museums to visit here that are probably worth the fee for.

Be sure to see the Tuna exhibit at the San Diego history center in Balboa Park. A great history of the tuna fishing industry in San Diego. Plus you're close to many museums, art, and the beautiful San Diego Zoo. For the children-carousel. What could beat that!
Have a great time.

This museum is cheap ($5.00) because it does not have much to offer. It was o.k. for a quick overview of the history of San Diego, but not a destination. As part of the 15 museums in Balboa Park, it completes the package.
