While the staff of this Hostel were very friendly and helpful, I had to leave one day early because of the following:

- I rented a 2 bed dorm and found myself sharing with a male
- Incredibly noisy location (airplanes flying overhead, sirens and hearing people talking from the street)
- No air conditioning

For other travelers who want to stay here you'll be PAYING UPFRONT for this hostel in CASH which means that you will have no ability to request a refund if you're unsatisfied with your stay and/or leave early.

I was staying here for the San Diego Comic Con and had to pay $$$ at a different hotel for the one night that I left early. I stayed for four days and I wasn't happy. I requested a refund for the fifth day at RK Hostel that I had paid. I attempted to contact the contact the owner several times for resolve who made no attempt to contact me back.

Their policy which is NOT stated on http://rkhostel.com is: ** No refunds and cash only **

This is a nice quite hostel, not a party hostel. nice to be somewhere quite to be able to get some sleep.
Located in little Italy, nice area, felt safe walking around at night.
Staff are very friendly and will help out in any way.
Breakfast was inluded - for once we got cereals instead of toast, which was really nice!

We took the trolly (tram) on the blue line to Tijuana (Mexico) for the day cost $5 each return and had a brilliant day, people tell you scary stories bout the drugs and stuff but there is no trouble there, its a tourist place and is full of people on day trips. Dont pay $60- $70 to go on a day trip and follow people around, its so easy, go by yourself. Once you get to the boarder there is an information center and they will help you.

This place is very close to some great restaurants in Little Italy and it's only a short walk to the Little Italy trolley stop along with convinience stores. We walked to Broadway from the hostel fairly easily also.

Be aware that you will be almost directly under the prevailing incoming flight path to San Diego Airport. You will notice the noise and you'll almost see the rivets in the the panels of each plane. Also there is a highway just across the road, although it elevated above the hostel so you don't get much noise.

We stayed in a double bunk room which was tidy enough. We didn't find it to be an overly social hostel although it appears most of the other people we saw there actually live there on a long term basis. When we were in the common room when one of these folks came in and changed the channel fairly abruptly. Breakfast was provided only one morning out of the 4 that we stayed there which meant a visit to the local coffee shop and we ended up buying cereal and milk from the 7-11 for breakfast. Also when we arrived, they had no change for us (less than $5) so we had to collect it on checkout.

This is a fairly new hostel so still getting up and running. But we found this place in a great location. In the Little Italy area of San Diego, so there are plently of good places to eat that wont break the bank. But you do have to eat out as there isn't a kitchen at the moment, we are unsure if there is any plans to put one in. The other thing to mention is you are under the flight path for the airport. But this is a fairly good hostel if you are looking cheap and safe place to stay.
