“Peaceful exploration”

Arrived late in the day. Parking was annoying and expensive but enjoyed the rest of our visit immensely. Great hiking. Wonderful sunset. Not too crowded.

“Breathtaking views, beautiful hike”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2014

The kids weren't particularly excited about stopping at the Torrey Pines State Reserve, but once we got there we had a great time. It is not to be missed. There is a beach at the entrance to the Park. There is a parking area at the entrance, at the base of the hill. You can walk up the hill, or drive up the hill to a smaller parking area (definitely do this). There is a short 2/3 mile hike recommended by the ranger which takes you through the desert and out to an overlook on the ocean. They have some signs pointing out the names of the local plants. You can see the beach way down below with tiny people on it. Stunning views.

Be warned that the restrooms have limited toilets and no soap or sinks.

“Beautiful and Unique Outdoor Fun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2014

Drive and park at the top of the Reserve for a quick history lesson on this unique area at the museum and to take one of many trails that will take you to lookout points over the ocean. Then take the car back down to the beach area and walk the 1 mile under the cliffs down to flat rock and back. Absolutely gorgeous. Don't rush it. Give yourself about 3 hours.

“Great family hiking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2014

Amazing vistas, and enough options that you can do as little or as much as you want and still have a very satisfying time. The beach trail has a steep bit, but in general if you have the right shoes and enough water, we found that a 7 year old was able to tackle it and still have enough energy for the rest of the day. Bring your camera. We will definitely be back on our next visit to SD.
