We stayed in the beach cottages with our extended family (8 adults, 5 small children). We had adjoining units right on the beach. The cottages were very modern and updated and had plenty of space. Breakfast was included at the Navy Lodge which was right next door. The kids loved being able to wake up and walk right outside to play in the sand. Washer and dryer in each unit was nice. Parking was available just yards from the front door. There was a playground for kids outside the Navy Lodge and there were fire rings on the beach. Nothing between the cottages and the ocean but it was a bit of a walk to get to the water. We loved watching the ships and helicopters and they didn't wake us at night. The cottages were perfect for us and we would go back in a heartbeat!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the cottages closest to the Navy Lodge which was very convenient when going over for br...

This was our third time staying at the Navy Lodge. It's GREAT...The staff are friendly, pleasant and accommodating. It has a very family friendly atmosphere. The location is absolutely beautiful with a great view of point Loma and Hotel Del. it's like having your own private beach. It's a great place to stay and a heckuva bang for your buck. We look forward to our next visit!

Room Tip: If possible get a room on the top floor facing the pool!

It is beautiful, absolutely a nice new place. But, wow, someone in upper level management really needs to take a very close look at how this place is being run.

I am moving a family of four and a dog overseas back to San Diego. A day before arrival, I called to confirm the reservation and ask when I can bring all my belongings by to free up space in the car. I had to pick up the family from the airport. I asked when the room would be available. 3. What? No rooms before that? No solid answer. I had to pry just to get the option of dropping my things in storage.

Check in at 3 was 8 couples or groups on a list, waiting for rooms to become available. Check-in time is officially at 3. I have NEVER seen a hotel run like this. Popular or not, you have check-out time and if it is not honored, there is a penalty. If you ask to check out late, you can be told NO, it is a full night and so we need you to be gone on time.

There was no manner of offering assistance, I had to ask for everything. I basically began to demand the level of service that I would come to expect at any other Navy Lodge anywhere else in the world. I have been to Lodges in eight countries so far. This one is beautiful, but the worst run.

Get a real management team in here that can handle the workload, knows how to run timelines and room loads, and can train staff top to bottom on customer service. Not everyone was totally unhelpful. This place isn't a horror show. Some staff were very patient and kind. But I will recommend against this specific place to all I can advise. There are better places that don't make you wait for your own room, don't stuff a laundry list full of rules you must initial and sign, and that DO work with you when they understand you have extenuating circumstances that they could make a huge difference by paying a little extra attention.

I know I sound super needy and whiny. Bit my normal self, but when the military forces a pretty tough logistical move on you, and a Navy sponsored organization is your place to rest, I would expect a totally different experience than what I had here.

We just returned from an 8 night stay at the Navy Lodge -North Island. This location has to be the crown jewel in the Navy Lodge system. Our room was located on the third floor with a view of the ocean toward Point Loma, as well as the playground and park-like area below. It was impeccably clean, had a full kitchen, and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony. Virtually noise-free, as long as the balcony door was closed to muffle the helicopter and plane traffic nearby. The beds were extremely comfortable for us, and most days, the room was serviced when we returned from sightseeing by 3-4 PM. The breakfast was adequate - this is the only Navy Lodge we've stayed in which had any type of breakfast other than a breakfast-to-go. They had oatmeal all 8 mornings we were there - no waffles that some other reviewers mentioned. It is helpful to go down for breakfast by 7 AM, as it becomes quite crowded after that, unless you take food back to your room. The front desk personnel were extremely welcoming, efficient, and helpful. The best part was the incredible sandy beach. We walked every morning and found beautiful shells. Also saw the active duty Navy personnel running or playing volleyball as their PT exercise early each morning. Just a wonderful relaxing place to stay and a great respite from the cold, icy Midwestern winter!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the ocean, if available.

We stayed in one of the beach cottages which was very nice! Fairly new, and very clean. The cottage is very nicely laid out with plenty of space and well equipped with pretty much anything you might need during your stay. There is a washer/dryer inside of the cottage; an outside shower and picnic table; and also plenty of grills outside. Both bedrooms have TV's as does the living area. The cottages are nicely positioned so that each one has a view of the water which is only short walk away. Although it did not bother us much, there are lots of aircraft which fly over the cottages at all times. If this sort of thing bothers you, you might want to stay somewhere else. There is a nice little shoppette inside the hotel lobby (walking distance) and also free breakfast is offered there as well. Very friendly and helpful staff. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning some day.

The beachside location was perfect, beautiful and our room was very clean. Another perk was the complimentary continental breakfast. There is a small shop with a variety of fresh and frozen foods, snacks and toiletries, right outside is a park and pool. Management was very nice and accommodating.
The only con is the shower, the water pressure is low, and it's hard to bathe a toddler/child with no bath option.
