I was invited to an event recently and I don't play golf. I have stayed in many good US hotels and I thought the service and food at this hotel was mediocre at best.

Front desk can be disorganised, and because this place is approx 20 miles outside San Diego you need taxis in and out, it was a real inconvenience at times. Also at approx $90 per trip expensive.

I don't normally sweat the small things but another example is there is a pretty good gym for this type of place but they had run out of towels in the morning.

It is in the middle of a small housing estate so other than walking around course not a lot to explore.

Three pools and different jacuzzis dotted around the place was positive. Pretty grounds as well.

Main bar too small and hot and you are not allowed to stay outside after midnight. Service was variable here as well.

This is a beautiful resort with lots of facilities for hosting conventions, weddings, etc. They do a great job. The rooms are very comfortable with great beds and good pillows. If you are stuck for things to do for day trips, see Holly, their concierge. She has great ideas. Among her home runs was Puesto Restaurant in San Diego. See my separate review on Puesto. Thanks Holly!

Room Tip: We always get a room on the top level. There are only 2 levels and I did not see an elevator, but if...

Came from New York on Friday to attend wedding ceremony festivities for 3 days. We just loved the beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. The food was delicious, lunch was just lovely on the veranda and was so sorry we could not stay another three more days. When we inquired they were already booked.

Room Tip: Many different villas. So if you are somewhat up there in age, ask for rooms that are close by. Ot...

My husband and I go to Rancho Bernardo once a year for a little get away. It's always been very nice but this year not so much. I understand it's an old property but old doesn't have to mean dirty.

We had a very nice room tucked away in the Fountains building. At first glance, things were tidy and very pretty. However, I soon noticed the dust on the wooden blinds were so thick I could use my finger to write my name in the slats. Upon looking a little closer, there were cobwebs all over, especially in the corners. I'm talking Adams Family-like cobwebs too. I could have made a nice cotton candy replica out of them. It just sort of took the romance right out of the room and with two kids, we need the romance.

So we head to the bar. A huge group of business people had been there prior (so the bartender tells us) so it smelled like old chicken wings, disinfectant and stale beer. We proceed to order a martini and a Manhattan. The bartender tells us there are no martini glasses and proceeds to serve our drinks in wine glasses. *sigh* I ask how can a bar not have martini glasses and she tells us they haven't had them in the bar for a long time and she doesn't know why. So we take our wine glasses and move outside for some fresh air.

The grounds are lovely. A beautiful golf course, nice patio, fountains everywhere. Very nice. The staff is very nice at the front desk.

However, we will be choosing a new romantic getaway spot next year.

Dear Moxxigirl, I would like to apologize for the cobwebs and dust on your guest room blinds, and the lack of appropriate glassware for your bar beverages. I will be addressing your comments with our Department Managers to ensure this is taken care of.

Thank you for your compliments on our resort grounds, golf course, patio and fountains, as well as our front desk staff. I certainly hope that you change your mind and come back to the Inn again, so we can exceed your expectations on your next visit.

Best regards,

Our daughter's wedding weekend was held at the Inn. From the Welcome Dinner, to the Wedding and Reception to the Farewell Brunch was, without a doubt, a magical experience. The property, the service / staff and the food were outstanding. Our guests couldn't have been happier. We will have these memories for a lifetime.

After a five week trip of the States, we were looking for somewhere to relax and recharge before the loooong flight back to Melbourne. Rancho Bernado was just the place to enjoy some R&R. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome and the surrounds immediately soothed a ragged traveller's soul!! From the premium Aveda toiletries to the swimming pool and hot tub to the superb restaurants, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here!!! Our rooms overlooked the golf course and the thwack of golf balls was incredibly soothing. The many gum trees also made us feel at home. A lovely, quiet place to stay.

The Rancho Bernardo Inn is a 25-30 minute drive north of the San Diego airport situated within a residential community. The subdued entrance does not prepare you for the beauty within. The Inn is even more beautiful than described on the website with terraces that overlook the golf course, interesting potted plants and decor. This must have been an interior designer's dream project. There is no lack of interior or outside seating areas. My room was both spacious and well appointed with updated furniture. The mattress I believe was a pillowtop and provided a soft yet supportive feel.

The dinning facilities offered a variety of meals from Wild arugula salad to hamburgers to scallops. All nicely seasoned. You must try the french bread putting for breakfast, it is delightful. Should have a need for a concierge, Holly is worth the wait as she is knowledgeable and will provide service with enthusiasm and a personal interest. I highly recommend the Inn for business or pleasure. If your would like to explore San Diego, a car is highly recommended.

Room Tip: I roomed near the rear parking lot in the Fountains building on the third floor which overlooked a g...
