Holiday Inn San Diego-Bayside

We came here for the 4th of July for 2 nights but we check out the next day. The room was so hot, the a/c wasn't working, just fan. I woke up sweating all over. The bathroom were really old and small, we cant hardly move around. The worst part is when the next door is taking a shower in the middle of the night, it makes a lot of noise in our bedroom. The walls are too thin too, I could hear the children crying a lot. I have stayed on a lot of Holiday Inns in US and overseas. They are usually decent looking. Some are a lot smaller but modern/updated amenities, some are I could rate 5 stars or more. But this should be paid attention by owner to retain the good reputation of Holiday Inn Hotels.

Room Tip: Some pictures are deceiving, check the reviews instead.

The pictures make the hotel look like it is just the one taller nice building, but really they have a smaller building in the back, which is where we were put, with no view. We are Holiday Inn Priority Club members, so we asked why we were put in the smaller room with no view, and they just told us that they have 2 bed rooms all over and this is the one we just happened to get. We had a non-smoking room, but the man below us also in non-smoking room, stood right outside his room, right below our balcony, and smoked, apparently this is OK. The room itself was clean, but small. They had a free bike rental, which was fun, but the maps that they gave us were just biking along the street and wasn't the nicest trail.

Room Tip: When making the reservation, request a room in the main/tall building with a view.

I was a little hesitant to stay at this Holiday Inn because I had read some good, some bad reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised!! The hotel is very clean and updated. Our room had a separate vanity area, then the shower/toilet in another area. We had free parking and wifi. The best part is the hotel is across the street from the harbor, and it is sooooo pretty and has amazing restaurants located there.
The hotel is smoking/non-smoking, and we really can't handle the smell of smoking, so I was scared I'd smell remnants of smoke, but we couldn't smell any smoke at all. It's also close to the airport, but we didn't hear any planes overhead.
I would totally recommend this hotel, in a heartbeat.

On first look, I thought the hotel was subpar...BUT I was in for the shock of my life. This hotel is amazing, mostly because of an awesome staff. Jon at the front desk is a treasure. Everyone down to the busboys for the restaurant (Point Loma Cafe) are truly superb. They are knowledgeable and friendly and left me with a great impression!

The hotel staff was very accommodating and informed us of local transportation and events in the area. They shuttled to and from the airport and around town as well. The restaurant had the best dinner specials (the salmon was excellent) that kept us coming back for more. Our compliments to the chef. My first visit to San Diego has been so memorable that I plan to go back real soon and continue where I left off.

Room Tip: Communication with the hotel is the key

The rooms very updated and nice at this hotel; the beds were great. It was clean and there were many business travelers here .We chose this hotel because we thought it was within walking distance of the Embarkadaro and other popular attractions, but it was not and there wasn't much to do nearby for a family with children. The pool area was right off of the restaurant, which is detached from the hotel and open to the public, and we didn't feel particularly safe; the hot tub holds about 4 people. The staff was not the friendliest to say the least. I wouldn't stay here again unless I were in town on business.
