“Will NEVER Stay Here Again”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2012

Where do I even begin? I’ve stayed in historic hotels before but the room we requested was no where near what we received. We were told we were going to have a mini-fridge in the room but that was not supplied. When we requested it at the front desk, the charge was $10 but it took 1 HOUR to arrive at our room. Shower less than 3 feet wide. The shower was standing room only which is fine for someone that's 5'0 but one of the guests was 6'6. He could not fit into the shower. The elevators are classic and old, only fun the first time. The room had an AC window unit which we didn’t mind. The flat sceen TV was nice but also had to turn up the volume because it was located next to the AC unit. The closet was just a rail hanging next to our “queen” size bed. Also after checking in and returning to the hotel room, the keys did not work. We were so fed up we decided just to upgrade to a suite but none were available and the front desk personnel were very unorganized. It took another hour to pick up the car from valet on Sunday morning because the hotel was understaffed. Overall, the service was terrible, the room was uncomfortable- small and cramped esp for someone thats 6’6”. and this is one PRE-historic hotel I will never recommend or stay at again. (even though the location is great)

Walking from the old Greyhound station to the new, my camera had to record the black metal staircase against the red building, half an hour later, after getting two night on Priceline at a 'FINE rate', I was more than surpried to find myself checking into the same building on 6th Ave in historic Gaslamp district. So convenient for my preferred walking habits, accesible to CBD, Convention Centre etc.
Trainee check me in, Had a good room with a bathroom view of the High end hotels and street. Pity there was no computer for resident's use, i am one of those without laptop not smartphone. All i all, will stay again, if i get the same rock bottom rate. Oh yes, the historic lift was a joy to ride and was the access to the rood for seeing the city and different times of the day

Room Tip: ask for view towards Sea / convention centre

Dear Guest , Thank you for the review . I wish the "trainee" had told you about our free business center on the first floor . Free computers with printers etc. Well of course we're glad your stay was a pleasant one ,heaven knows not every child is above average, not every day a sunny one and not every hotel stay a good one . Thank you again for your support. We hope to see you again in the near future.

I enjoyed a short stay here. The hotel is located on the fringe of the Gaslamp Quarter, so it is easy to explore the neighborhood, and to get to the Convention Center. It is also close to a couple of major bus lines, and one of the Trolley lines (Blue). The Green line is an easy walk as well. With the complimentary airport shuttle, and being close to the 992 (bus) line, it is easy to have an automobile-free stay in San Diego. The staff was friendly and helpful (kudos to Alex and Clay). The adjacent restaurant serves a good breakfast, but that's another review. The room that I had was a "Double Queen", and consisted of two adjacent bedrooms with a bath (and a tub). The rooms were not large (by standards of a modern corporate hotel), but by European standards they were fine, would accommodate one or two travelers comfortably. If your budget is not really tight, I recommend the double room, or one of the suites. The roof terrace was a bonus. I will stay here on my next trip to San Diego.

Dear guest , Thanks for the kind words. You are in one of our famous double/doubles . Two separate guest rooms sharing one bathroom, great for sharing , as it's almost like two rooms for the price of one . For sure we're not a "big box" hotel ,we are like a European boutique hotel . You can see all our quirky room types on the hotel's website which is linked right here on TripAdvisor. It's a great new feature . Thank you again for your support.
