“convenient location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2013

A comfortable hotel with a very convenient location to the convention center and the gaslamp district. This makes up for its somewhat dated room décor and the fact that some noise can be heard between rooms. One must pay for the internet in the room but it is easily available in the lobby/restaurant/bar. The staff are helpful.

Stayed here during medical convention in October. Firstly rooms are big with double beds, some rooms dated and I suspect sister hotel 10mins away more modernised. Despite that the location is ideal for the convention centre just across the road. Train lines just on door step which is great for travelling to mall and other places. Tickets usually $2.50. However this does mean it can be noisy early mornings and evenings when trains pass. However wasn't too intrusive. Gas lamp quarter is great for restaurants, bars etc. the mall is just 10 mins walk up 4th avenue and has good selection of shops. Staff at hotel helpful and friendly, buffet dinner was excellent. But wi fi in room extra (hotels around the world should really offer as standard). But at least you can log on in lobby which is a pleasant area to sit and read and have a few drinks. Lou and Mickey's restaurant next door is highly recommended for sea food and steak. Suggest you buy bottled water as in room water is charged extra. Expect to pay around $139 for a double with breakfast as extra. Breakfast is fairly standard fare but freshly made omelettes were great. There are plenty of places minutes away were you can get a great breakfast at a cheap price. Overall hotel location good, comfortable, cleanliness 8/10, would stay here again.

Word of warning if you decide to ride the bicycle taxis they can be a rip off, ask for price before you ride!!! As taxis may be cheaper....I know one person charged $30 to go two blocks!!!!

USS midway well worth a visit as well as San Diego zoo and parks...see my other reviews on restaurants.

Room Tip: If noise an issue for you ask for room away from the train line and park.

Great place if you are a member of their honors program and don't mine paying $40 a day for parking, paying extra for bottled water and internet in the room. They do have free internet in the lobby. The buffet is nice but expensive if not part of their honors program. The meals were nice and they had a group of $10 items, pizza, hamburgers, etc and then $20 for full dinners.

the hotel rooms were a little dated and our upgraded suite was near train tracks...noisy during day ok at night...gas lamp quarter area has changed...huge bar scene now and the fine dining has declined and way too many call girls roaming the streets...sad

I was in San Diego on business and stayed at this Hotel. It is a nice hotel and located right across from the San Diego Convention Center. It is also part of the Gaslamp Quarter, so multiple choices in restaurants are very close. The staff was friendly and the room was clean, so I think it is a good choice, if you are going to be staying in this area.

wonderful stay. Excellent across the board. A great experience start to finish. The entire staff was helpful and friendly. Location could not have been better...very convenient to gas lamp district, convention center and SD harbor. Walking distance to everything and near light rail (metro) for everything else. Only drawback is rail lines that run RIGHT past the hotel

Very good hotel. Beautifully decorated and kept very clean. Great location across the street from the convention center and at the "base" of 5th St. (the main drag in the Gaslamp Quarter.)

The staff were always excellent even before I arrived. Elise was very helpful with a colleague fixing a mistake I made in my reservation before I arrived (I was on the plane at the time.) My room was ready when I arrived and I got to check in early. Elise was great during check in as well.

I had a great three nights at the hotel.

They always had taxis waiting outside which was also excellent.

My room was very comfortable except for some small noise problems due to its facing a park (see my room tip below.)

Room Tip: Rooms facing the park in the front of the hotel and toward the trains are a bit noisy. At least on t...
