“Wow! Great Hostel!”
Reviewed 22 May 2013

The room was clean and didn't smell. Near to public transportation. There's a good night life in the area. The noise on the street was not too bothersome. And because of its location it makes it a great place to stay. I drove and the downside is the car park is a block or two away (we had difficulty remembering where we park, but that's our fault lol). Breakfast goes over the top and is amazing. The bathrooms are clean and I never had to wait. Each bed has an electrical plug AND the lockers have a plug in them too! For how cheap it is to stay and all the perks, it is a very good deal.

Room Tip: Make sure you go to the chocolate shop down the street!

I stayed here for one night in a 6 bed female only room after attending a work conference.

Staff were very friendly on arrival and my room was pleasant enough - I like the privacy pods with sockets and lights. Room very very hot and only low 20s outside.

I ate in the hostel in the "family dinner" on a thursday - a bargan for $5.

Location is excellent and makes a great base for exploring San Diego and the Gaslamp District.

Not many bathroom facilities given the number of people staying, but didn't have a problem getting a shower!

Would stay here again if in the area.

4 women in town for a conference. Excellent location, good breakfast and great staff. As previous reviews have alluded a very small 4 bed room with minimal ventilation.
Suited our needs. We all knew each other, so I cannot comment on the suitability for solo travelers. Looked like quite a good place if you did not know anyone,

Room Tip: One up the top. Our room was at the entry and was quite loud

This hostel was easy to find, just a short walk from the bus station. When we arrived at 5:30pm we checked in and the girl at the counter informed us that in 20 mins time there was the weekly trip to Tijuana mexico. a free trip provided by the hostel to spend the night on a pub crawl around the bars in TJ. Well although we were tired how could we pass up this opportunity, we checked in and got changed and spent a very good evening in Mexico. The hostel staff took us there on the train and spent the night showing us to bars that they frequent every week with travellers, i felt totally safe and had a very good night!
The hostel itself is very nice, good kitchen area and seating around the place to access the wifi.
There is also a social room that they sell drinks in and are open very late and the beers are good prices!
Another night there was a pub crawl arranged for the bars around the area and being perfectly located for this again, had a very good evening.
The room, was very small, in fact I would say TOO small for 4 people with 4 suitcases but it did not matter really because we had such a good time and everyone was so friendly. There are co-ed shower and bathrooms which I wasnt too fussed on but not a problem as showers were pretty much private shower rooms so again, not a problem.
All in all and excellent hostel (right up the street from the convention centre) and I would deffinately stay there again! :)

I had to stay with a group. We stayed in a room with a keycard access and shared a room with 5 other people. We had 6 in our group so it worked out great. I enjoyed the free breakfast. you had to make it but you also didn't have to pay for it. I liked the fact that it was in the Gaslamp district on the main drag. Parking downtown is tuff but just find a good spot. we saw lots of great things. I would suggest the 992 bus from the airport to 5th and then walk the few blocks. it was a great time and I would definitely return. (Note, this is a low budget option. Not the Ritz! If you don't sleep well with 5 other people shifting in metal bunks, you need your own room at $250 a night vs the $35pp)

Room Tip: If you don't like your roomies, just ask for a transfer!

Originally we booked 3nights in san Diego on our trip across the USA, but me and my two sisters I was travelling with loved San Diego so much we ended up staying for a week. San Diego was amazing so much to do and to see, this hostel was amazing, so very social they have a bar in the hostel open to 2am or 3am and beers are $2 each, or you could bring your own. the location was great just down the road from the convention centre and round the corner from a very large shopping mall and lots of places to eat, cinema across the street, and lots of info on busses and things to do nearby, the hostel do a night to Tijuana Mexico, which was so much fun! AND SO CHEAP I THINK WE PAID ABOUT $17 for the train with the hostel for a return, and we went to lots of bars and met up with other hostels, made loads of friends and ended up in a strip club, not really my thing but it was just a laugh, really cheap great night out, also the hostel has pub crawls which I would also recommend doing. the only down side was how very very tiny our 4 person room was, we have been staying at a lot of hostels and this had the smallest room, not all the rooms were that small, but this was a 4 person room with 4 big suitcases, and it was just a nightmare, just stressful being in there, luckily were weren't in there very often, but it certainly made it hard to get dressed and also the showers and toilets are coed, so boys and girls all using the same facilities at the same time, so you cant really get changed and dressed in the toilet either. But all in all fantastic time. would deffintly stay again :)
