“Very Nice Stay”
Reviewed 7 February 2014

The Marriott Del Mar proved to be a very nice hotel for our weekend visit to San Diego. While it was not close to downtown or other attractions we visited, the location was close to the freeway and proved to provide easy access to all of the places we visited. Even on a Monday, the freeway was not crowded and the trip to the zoo took only about fifteen minutes. La Jolla was much closer to the hotel and the same freeway made the trip easy. The staff was very helpful and even sent my wife a gift when they discovered it was her birthday. I would definitely stay at the hotel again on future visits.

I'm an elite member with Marriott, and I was put on the second floor with a view out to the roof. See photo. Not so great. On the upside, I'm so close to the lobby that I can get that WIFI and not have to pay $12.95 a night for room WIFI. I have not asked for a room change.

Breakfast at the restaurant was good (crab hash with poached eggs and sauce). The room itself is very clean, new. Towels are a little rough and worn.

If you are looking for a great space to hold a corporate event or private dining party in San Diego, then look no further. Arterra not only has amazing space, but also excellent service. I recently planned a 200 attendee event, with casino gaming table, guest speakers, food and beverage, etc. and used a combination of the The Great Room and The Patio. The space was beautiful and just perfect for the event. Jenessa was incredible to work with prior to the event always available for emails, calls and visits to the property. She also helped create a wonderful food and drink menu that our attendees loved. Brittany, Sean, Danielle and Daniella took care of us during the event and made sure that every detail was attended to and perfect. We received raving reviews about the event and the space and could not have had the success we did without the help of Arterra.

From the front desk to the bellman to the manager of the restsurant and beyond everyone here was fabulous. What a great place in a lovely city. I'll definitely be back. Special props to the amazing evening restaurant manager. She is at the top of her game in every way.

I recently coordinated and attended an event in Arterra's "Living Room" - what a great space for a group of 20! Jenessa was fantastic in helping me coordinate the event on short notice and was very responsive and helpful. The Living Room is a beautiful space and as always, Arterra's food was excellent, as was Agi, our dedicated server. I would hold another event there in a heart beat! Thank you, Jenessa for helping make our event a success!

Although this seems to be a business hotel and not near the beach (a few minutes by car though), we as tourists spent almost 10 days there and found this hotel excellent in serving individual guests. The staff was at all times very friendly and helpful and since we stayed there quite a number of days, we were upgraded to a concierge room at checking in, with access to the concierge lounge, which was very much appreciated. The new manager of this hotel was personally greeting the guests in the lounge and on Thursdays he spent a cocktail for all guests in the lounge and was personally there. We found this a nice gesture.
Sisily at the reception was very helpful and when we wanted to extend our stay, but because the hotel was fully booked, she could not arrange an extension for our room, we received some fruits and other eatables and drinkables in the fridge with a nice "Thank-you-card" signed by the staff in the reception. Again indeed a nice gesture.
Moreover there is a complimentary transport to wherever you want to go within 5 miles of the hotel. A service free of charge, which you find not often at other hotels and was appreciated very much by us, especially when we were picking up and bringing back a rented car.
The room was large, very comfortable (as usual with Marriott-) beds and most of all very clean. The pool was almost empty when we have been there (may be because it was ...at least in our opinion ... more a business- than a tourist hotel), but the more we appreciated the cleanliness and the warm water of this outside pool.
There are a few things though, which we may recommend or suggest to the manager to add to the comfort of this hotel:
There was no safe in the room and this was very much missed by us, as it is good to put a few valuables in a room safe, rather than having to go down to the reception's safe. A hotelbook was missing too, a small matter, but would be ever so usuable, if you try to find things in a hotel, rather than having to call the reception. This in fact is the first time, we have not had such a hotelbook in a hotel room! There is a charge to the use of the internet in the room, although in fact you can anytime use their computers and internet absolutely free of charge in the lobby. You can even print out documents there free of charge. Phone calls from the hotel are very expensive, especially if you call from San Diego (Del Mar) to Los Angeles, which is regarded as "Long Distance", although not so many miles apart. On their Webpage they offer 35% if you rent a car from Hertz. Hertz however, did not know of such an arrangement after calling them, so that we rented a car from another supplier in Del Mar at much better conditions. Finally the parking fee of $ 20.00 in their garage was a bit steep, but comparing to other hotels (eg. Coronado Marriott) it is still cheaper.
All-in-all: we have been vore than satisfied with this hotel and would recommend it anytime and come again, if we should visit Sa nDiego and surroundings ever again.

Stayed here as part of a large group

Overall it was a pleasant stay. Good bar and very good room service. Quiet and comfortable bedroom.
I travelled by coach to hotel from airport and it took about 45 mins at rush hour.
Checking was trouble free and efficient.
