Very nice hotel, great service. They were so helpful with maps and directions. The van even dropped us off to dinner and picked us up. Beds were pretty comfortable. Everything was very clean and the location is great for getting around with minimal stress.

Stayed in Room 611 and were worried when the saw the ear plugs neatly laid out on the night stand. We thought we'd try without and had a good night's sleep. Periodically we'd wake up to the "ding, ding" but it didn't disrupt our sleep. We stayed here Friday & Saturday, March 28 & 29. There was a dance competition going on at the Convention Center so there were a LOT of "tweens" staying at the hotel and made the lobby and breakfast area crowded in the mornings. The desk staff was friendly and the breakfast area staff kept food supplied and did an excellent job of keeping the place picked up. If you are able to walk, this hotel is convenient to Little Italy, the Convention Center, Gas Lamp District and the East Village. We parked our car and never took it out until we left. Amenities in the room were as expected. The shower head is high up on the wall so unless you want to wash your hair you'll need the shower cap - don't throw it away - they didn't replace it! Electrical outlets in the room were plentiful with some USB ports for re-charging. WiFi was available in the room. There were computers to use in the lobby with a printer to print boarding passes. I believe my only issue was the coffee set up. This was a problem in the mornings when there was a crowd. The table was not large enough for more than 2 people to get their coffee, cream and sugar. It was a little bit of a hassle since, as I said earlier, there were a lot of people in the lobby. The hotel provides re-cycling bins on the floor; unfortunately guests seemed not to notice they were for re-cycling and disposed of trash in them.

Room Tip: Room 611 had 2 queen beds. It was a little tight with 2 adults but offered a big bathroom with a tu...

I really enjoyed my stay at this Hampton Inn which was a block away from the water and a short trolley ride on the Green Line to the Convention Center/Gas Lamp District. My room faced the train and trolley tracks and I was provided ear plugs for the "ding ding ding ding" and roar of the train that went on throughout the night. It didn't really bother me, and slept soundly with the ear plugs. I also enjoyed a view of the ocean in the distance. I would come back to this hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly with a decent Breakfast to get you started in the morning. This hotel is also very close to some FANTASTIC restaurants. Thanks for a wonderful stay in San Diego!

We checked other reviews of this hotel before we went and was made aware that the trolley and train tracks are directly behind the hotel. If this would bother you, request a room on the front of the property. It did not bother us at all. In fact, if you plan to use it, it just made it more convenient. We took it all over the city.
The hotel has a free shuttle to and from the airport AND the zoo! It was great. Everyone that works there was so friendly and helpful, from the front desk to the employees taking your tray/trash at the breakfast, which by the way, was awesome!! We also had a refrigerator in our room (no charge). Anything we asked for was immediately taken care of.
Our room was clean and we were impressed that they wash the COMFORTER and sheets before every visit. DEFINITELY would stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street are quieter.

the true value of the Hampton Inn is that you always know what to expect. No surprises. This one met our expectations. the only way it could have been better would be to have a room mini-refrigerator. Food and hospitality from staff always very good. I don't need the high-end amenities of the Manchester Hyatt.

This Hampton Inn has an excellent location for walking tours of San Diego, but has services readily available for those who do not enjoy walking. We walked for shopping, dining, visiting Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo as well as visiting the waterfront from which we secured a city tour, booked a dinner cruise, did whale watching, and visited multiple maritime museums. The entire staff at the Inn is very attentive to the needs of the consumer. The rooms are neat and clean, and the complimentary breakfast covers a wide range of tastes.

My wife and I stayed here on a recent business trip to the area. We chose this property because their room rate was considerably less than most other hotels in the area. This is an older property, but it has been recently renovated and the décor was very nice. We had a large, spacious room that was very comfortable.

The complimentary, high speed Internet was easy to get connected for all our devices and offered very good bandwidth. The complimentary breakfast was also very good and typical of the Hampton Suites brand. The entire hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They kept the property sparkling and all were quick to wish you a happy visit.

You certainly cannot beat the hotel's location within walking distance of all the harbor attractions and the Gas Lamp district. I will say though that the noise from the adjacent railway crossings was a bit annoying. The hotel did provide ear plugs to help, but after several days, the fairly constant Ding, Ding, Ding of the crossing gates started to wear.

If you don't mind this inconvenience and want a clean, comfortable room at a good price, you may wish to consider staying here.

Room Tip: Ask for room that is not adjacent to the railroad crossings.
