“Good discount location for attending conference”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 April 2014

I was satisified with my stay at the Best Value Inn. It's a bit of a trek, but walking distance to the convention center as well as the airport (2 miles.) It is convenient to Balboa Park, a great place to run and see museums. It is not in the best area, but as a single female I felt safe in early morning and daytime hours - I did not venture out after nightfall. The microwave, fridge, and coffeemaker in the room were very convenient. Breakfast offered a lot of packaged goods - bagels, pastries, oatmeal packets, oatmeal bars - as well as fresh oranges and apples, juiceboxes, tea, and coffee. The room was reasonably clean - a couple of tiny ants in the sink area, and pretty quiet.

We loved staying at this hotel and will definitely stay there again; we were down the street from downtown and Bobby our concierge was most helpful and gave us all the information we needed.
It was a great experience as well as a clean and quiet hotel.

My boyfriend and I chose this hotel for a small weekend getaway, one night stay. We chose this hotel specifically for the price and location (only two min. cab ride to downtown). Parking is free on the street during certain days/times, but it is limited. Upon arrival, Alex, the concierge on duty at the time, was very nice and attentive. Because it was our first time staying there, he upgraded our room, and discounted $20 off our total price, which was very nice of him. They offer a continental breakfast which included cereal, fruit, muffins, and breakfast packaged snacks. They also offer complimentary toiletries, such as toothpaste and toothbrushes. Rooms as tiny but like I said, we were only there for a night so it wasn't much of an inconvenience. I would recommend this hotel if you are traveling for a short stay, and would like to be close the downtown entertainment.

We stayed here over Halloween so we could go out in Gas Lamp district. The hotel was farther then the website made it seem- probably about 20 min brisk walk to Gaslamp. Room was tiny but ok for a night. Wouldn't want to stay much longer with 2 people as we were tripping over our suitcases as there wasn't really anywhere to put them that they weren't in the way. Room was clean enough, nothing fancy. It was a bit loud at night when everyone was coming back from the bars- it is sort of like motel with all the doors to the rooms facing the middle so you could hear when everyone else went back to room. Thankfully we were able to get a parking spot & just left car there for rest of stay but there is not much available and we had to park down street. Front desk staff were a bit rude and didn't really seem interested in helping us. We would stand at front desk & have to interrupt them from reading to get their attention to help us.
Overall alright value for a short stay.

This hotel is a great example of the old saying "You get what you pay for." Now I didn't expect much because of the price, but I was very disappointed by this hotel. We booked here knowing that San Diego parking can be expensive, and the website advertised free parking. When we arrived, there was a pamphlet describing the free parking as any of the street parking around the corner (where there was broken glass all over the street from some other guest taking advantage of the "free parking"). We ended up parking at a pay lot across the street, which was only $12...but if you leave you just have to hope that there is still space for you when you come back.

The room was pretty much what I expected, very basic. The TV did not work, just a handful of crappy channels. The most annoying part, however, are the paper thin walls and ceilings. I think a herd of elephants were in the room above me playing leap frog all night long. The bed was also covered in plastic, which caused me to slide around all night (and pull my wife with me every time I moved).

On a positive note, this experience has made my wife realize that when I book more expensive places it is for a reason. When you book cheap, you get what you pay for...so we won't have to stay at America's Best Value Inn anymore.
